Created by crime novelist Eric Ambler and filmed on the streets of San Francisco, Checkmate revolved around private investigators and their quest to prevent crimes before they happen. The show's haunting, iconic music, composed by John Williams, is perfectly suited for Checkmate's San Francisco setting, of fog-filled streets, sweeping ocean views and cable cars.
Checkmate starred Anthony George as PI Don Corey and Doug McClure as his assistant Jed Sills. Sebastian Cabot starred as Carl Hyatt, a university criminology professor who served as a consultant to the firm.
The Checkmate: The Complete Series DVD set of 14 discs contain all episodes of the series, which aired for two seasons (from September 1960 through June 1962) on NBC.
