First Sherlock Holmes Game for Nintendo 3DS

Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Frozen City (Nintendo DS)

The first "Sherlock Holmes" game for the Nintendo 3DS was released this week in the UK and Nordic countries.

Titled Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Frozen City, the storyline is set during a mysterious ice storm that has descended upon London. The capital city is totally paralyzed, and even the Thames is starting to freeze solid. However, the strangest fact is that the storm seems to only affect London, sparing the rest of England.

At the dawn of the third day of storm, Sherlock Holmes receives a telegram coming from the Annual Exhibition of Inventions, taking place in the Great Hall of Scientific Discoveries at the very heart of the city: the storm might not be natural! Finally a case worthy of Sherlock Holmes' great mind! With no hesitation, the famous detective braves the storm and goes to the scene, accompanied by his faithful friend Doctor Watson, in order to study and investigate the strange phenomenon.

The game, no doubt inspired by the popularity of the conceptually similar Professor Layton games, does not (to our knowledge) have a US release date yet. Visit the game website for more information.

The first hour of this thriller is terrific filmmaking: well-cast actors in a sharply written screenplay, crisply directed. Then it seems as if someone else stepped in at the one hour mark, ripped up the script, sent the actors home (as it were), and phoned in the direction. I'm still shocked at how poorly executed the second half of this film is.

Argentinian Banner for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 (Argentina, November 2012)

This is the last international poster of the day — the Argentina banner version of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2.

Titled la saga crepúsculo: amanecer parte 2 — we're not sure what words, if any, are supposed to be capitalized, so we'll leave them as written — the tagline is, "Un final épico que vivirá para siempre" ("The epic finale that will live forever"). We think it does a really good job of setting up the storyline for the film, all in one image.

Breaking Dawn Part 2 opens in Argentina November 15th, a day before its premiere here in the US.

Spanish Poster for Alex Cross

Alex Cross (Spain, November 2012)

It must be international poster distribution day for the studios as we have a third foreign-language poster of the day.

The Spanish version of Alex Cross is shown (right; click for larger image) … and doesn't even depict the titular character (played by Tyler Perry). Maybe that's because the film is titled En la mente del asesino in Spain — "In the Mind of a Killer: — in which case showing Matthew Fox as psychopathic serial killer Michael "Picasso" Sullivan is quite appropriate.

Alex Cross opens in Spain on November 16th; it is currently in theaters here in the US.
