Once Upon a Time Title Scenes: Look for Season 2 Episode Clues!

Once Upon a Time Season 2 (ABC)

ABC has a clever way of introducing the second season of its fantasy/mystery series Once Upon a Time: a sequence of opening title scenes, each with a clue as to the storyline of the episode. Watch below and see how many you can identify!

We could easily have missed it, but we don't think ABC has announced the premiere date of the series, though we do know it will air on Sundays at 8 PM (ET/PT). We also know the first episode is titled "Broken"; screenwriter Adam Horowitz tweeted a picture of the script cover a few days ago.

I enjoyed this film but am not terribly enthusiastic about it. Mostly a near miss for me. Solid characters in rogue CIA operative Tobin Frost (Denzel Washington) and current CIA agent Matt Weston (Ryan Reynolds), a reasonably coherent screenplay, and adequate if not entirely inspired direction.

MystereBooks: This Week's Update of Kindle Books Priced $2.99 or Less (120714)

MystereBooks: Mystery, Suspense, and Thriller eBooks

Every month Amazon publishes a list of 100 Kindle books priced $3.99 or less. We thought we'd take that idea and improve on it, publishing a list of 100 Kindle mystery books priced $2.99 or less and updating it every week!

Here is our general criteria for selecting titles to include: books from major or specialty publishers of crime fiction and those written by authors familiar to us. There are far more than 100 to choose from, so we use our best judgment to narrow it down.

We have a lot of ground to cover today to let's get started!

• Earlier this week we mentioned that series mysteries by Laurence Shames and Kathy Hogen Trocheck were now available as ebooks. We've included them in our update, but they aren't repeated below.

• There are several "pre-order" titles below. Thomas Glavinic's stand-alone The Camera Killer (Der Kameramörder) is published on July 17th, while the first three titles in Debra Webb's new "Faces of Evil" series come out in early August through early September.

• Both Poisoned Pen Press and Down & Out Books lowered the price of several of their books this past week.

• Don't forget to check out July's Amazon 100 Kindle Books for $3.99 or less. We've tried to avoid duplicating titles from this sale on our own list, but there's always a chance one or two might have slipped in.

Below are listed the new $2.99 or less titles we added today; click on the cover or title for more information or to purchase the Kindle edition.

Important Note: Prices can and do change without prior notice! We strongly urge you to confirm the price of the book before completing your purchase. The price displayed on the vendor website at the time of purchase is the price of the book.

Andrea Kane: Author Q&A

Omnimystery News: Author Interview

We are delighted to welcome suspense novelist Andrea Kane to Omnimystery News today, courtesy of BookTrib.

Andrea's new thriller is the next in her "Forensic Instincts" series, The Line Between Here and Gone (Harlequin Mira, June 2012 hardcover, ebook and audiobook formats).

Andrea is on tour all this month to talk about her book. You can see her complete schedule on the BookTrib.com website; be sure to follow along the scavenger hunt and read reviews, enter giveaways and more. And speaking of giveaways, we're pleased to be able to be one of those sites that has been offered an opportunity to give one of our readers a chance to win a copy of The Line Between here and Gone; details below.

— ◊ —

An excerpt …

The nurse was right. She'd be of no use to Justin if she fell to pieces. And she'd done enough of that already.

Walking down the corridor, stepping into the elevator, and descending to the main level, Amanda felt the physical pain tearing insider her that always accompanied a separation from Justin.

— ◊ —

Omnimystery News: What was your inspiration for The Line Between Here and Gone?

Andrea Kane: As with all my books, The Line Between Here and Gone started out as flashes of the characters' lives playing out in my head. I saw a flash of an important male character who vanished without a trace and a critically ill infant whose life was integrally tied to his. But I didn't know why or how that would factor into FI's caseload. Those answers came later, after the baby's mother crystallized in my mind.

OMN: What sort of attachment do you have to your characters?

AK: They become part of me, like family. The ending of a book is bittersweet. My characters are fully formed, have achieved some resolution in battling the trials and tribulations of life. Just when I'm ready to enjoy their creation, it's time to say goodbye. Fortunately with "Forensic Instincts", I get the chance to stay attached and further the FI team's characters and stories in their next book.

OMN: Tell us about where do you do most of your writing.

A: Wherever my Pomeranian lets me. It's amazing where he can place his snout, his paws, his tail and his body on my laptop to prevent me from writing

OMN: Do you have an inspiration board for each book? Maybe a scrapbook? Character biographies?

AK: No boards, no scrapbooks. I'm a pretty cerebral person. For me, the inspiration comes from within — characters with a story they're excited to tell!

OMN: Are any characters in the book based on people you know or have met in your personal life?

AK: I am constantly inspired by people (and animals) I meet while researching my novels: FBI agents, cops, other law enforcement personnel, doctors, nurses, vets, dogs, as well as people I meet in my everyday life. I think my characters embody the best and worst traits of all of them. Working closely with the FBI has given me the opportunity to see integrity, dedication, intelligence, and insightfulness up close and personal.

About The Line Between Here and Gone:

The man she loved is gone forever. The child she lives for could be next.

Each day is a struggle for Amanda Gleason's newborn son as he battles a rare immune deficiency. Justin's best chance for a cure lies with his father, who was brutally murdered before Amanda even realized she carried his child.

Or was he?

One emailed photo changes everything, planting a seed of doubt that Amanda latches on to for dear life: a recent photo of a man who looks exactly like Paul. Could Justin's father be alive? The mother in her is desperate to find out. But tracking down a ghost when every second counts is not for amateurs.

Forensic Instincts is the one team up for the challenge.

A behaviorist. A former navy SEAL. A techno-wizard. An intuitive. A retired FBI agent. A human-scent-evidence dog. Together they achieve the impossible, pushing ethical and legal boundaries whenever the ends justify the means.

The manhunt is on for the elusive father. Yet the further FI digs into his past, the more questions are raised about whether the man Amanda fell in love with ever really existed at all.

Dark secrets. Carefully crafted lies. From the congressional halls of Washington, D.C., to exclusive Hamptons manors, there are ruthless people who would stop at nothing to make Forensic Instincts forget about the man Amanda desperately needs to find.

Little do they realize that once Forensic Instincts takes the case, nothing will stop them from uncovering the shocking truth …
