This past May, crime novelist Marcus Sakey announced that he would be writing and hosting a new series for the Travel Channel titled Hidden City. "In it I visit different places and explore the crimes that helped define them," he says. "Basically, my feeling is that if you only see the tourist districts, Seattle is the same as Shanghai. The real stories are in the shadows—and shadowy stories are my business."
Today, the Travel Channel announced a premiere date for the series: Monday, December 5th at 10 PM (ET/PT).
The first city to be visited is Sakey's home town of Chicago, where viewers will meet America’s first—and maybe worst—serial killer, H. H. Holmes; walk in the footsteps of legendary gangster, John Dillinger; and dig into the 1968 DNC riots. Upcoming episodes will include Anchorage, Atlanta, Austin, Boston, the Florida Keys, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C.

CBS Acquires Project based on novel Red on Red by Edward Conlon
CBS has acquired a project based on Edward Conlon's debut novel Red on Red. Former Without a Trace and The Defenders showrunner Greg Walker is expected to develop it for the network.
Published earlier this year by Spiegel & Grau, Red on Red is the story of two NYPD detectives, Meehan and Esposito: one damaged and introspective, the other ambitious and unscrupulous. Meehan is compelled by haunting and elusive stories that defy easy resolution, while Esposito is drawn to cases of rough and ordinary combat. A fierce and unlikely friendship develops between them and plays out against a tangle of mysteries: a lonely immigrant who hangs herself in Inwood Hill Park, a serial rapist preying on upper Manhattan, a troubled Catholic schoolgirl who appears in the wrong place with uncanny regularity, and a savage gang war that erupts over a case of mistaken identity.
