Last Spring we learned that Patricia Highsmith's five novels featuring Tom Ripley — The Talented Mr. Ripley (1955), Ripley Underground (1970), Ripley's Game (1974), The Boy Who Followed Ripley (1980) and Ripley Under Water (1991) — were to be adapted for television. This week it was announced that Neil Cross, creator of the Luther series of crime novels and the television series based on the character, has joined the production as executive producer and will write the screenplay adaptation. The series is expected to be character-driven, with emphasis on the sophistication and complexity of Tom Ripley.
No network, cable or streaming service has yet picked up the series.
