Cinemystery News: Julia Roberts To Produce, Star In Film Adaptation of Harlan Coben's Fool Me Once

Fool Me Once by Harlan Coben

Julia Roberts has signed on to star as the lead in and to produce an adaptation of Harlan Coben's new thriller Fool Me Once.

She'll play Maya Stern, a former special ops pilot, who is home from the war when she sees an unthinkable image captured by her nanny cam while she is at work: her two-year-old daughter playing with Maya’s husband, Joe — who had been brutally murdered two weeks earlier. Here's the rest of the book's synopsis (from the publisher): "The provocative question at the heart of the mystery: Can you believe everything you see with your own eyes, even when you desperately want to? To find the answer, Maya must finally come to terms with deep secrets and deceit in her own past before she can face the unbelievable truth about her husband — and herself."

Coben has had little success in getting his popular books adapted for the big or small screen. Several — Gone for Good, Stay Close, Missing You, and a couple of others — are or have been in various stages of pre-production, but none of these has actually made it very far. Indeed, only Tell No One has been made into a movie, a French-language film released in 2006 and acquired by Warner Bros. for an English-language remake, but nothing has come of that (to date).
