One of our favorite network dramas was Fox's Prison Break, which aired for four seasons from 2005 through 2009. And now we're learning that Fox has confirmed that the series will return as a 10-episode special event in 2016.
"It's going to bring back both brothers, [played by] Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell," said Fox Chairman and CEO Gary Newman.
"I would describe it as a bit of a sequel," added Co-Chairman and CEO Dana Walden. "It picks up the characters several years after we left them in the last season of the show. The brothers will be back. Some of the iconic characters from that show will be back."
Given that Wentworth Miller's character died at the end of the fourth season, it's hard to see how this special event could be called a "sequel", but this is apparently what makes it "special": "What [executive producer Paul Scheuring] pitched to us was a very logical and believable — in the world of Prison Break — explanation for why our characters are alive and still moving around the world."
Still, we'll no doubt be watching, regardless of whatever logic is employed.
