The Coen brothers — Joel and Ethan — have signed on to adapt the 1966 Lew Archer crime novel Black Money by Ross Macdonald for Warner Bros. They may also elect to the direct the film, though that hasn't yet been determined.
The Coens have adapted and/or directed several films that have books as their source, the best known of which is probably No Country for Old Men, for which they won Academy Awards for achievement in directing and for best adapted screenplay. (The film also won for Best Picture of the year.)
More about Black Money, below. (The cover, right, is the original dust jacket for the book as published by Knopf.)
Black Money by Ross Macdonald
A Lew Archer Crime Novel
When Lew Archer is hired to get the goods on the suspiciously suave Frenchman who's run off with his client's girlfriend, it looks like a simple case of alienated affections.
Things look different when the mysterious foreigner turns out to be connected to a seven-year-old suicide and a mountain of gambling debts.
