Detective Chief Inspector Richard Cowell is back on duty only weeks after a disciplinary hearing following the deaths of two of his fellow officers. The not-guilty verdict has left psychological scars. Most of his staff are showing signs of hostility towards him and now even his girlfriend's dumped him.
The bodies of two young women are discovered as a murderer goes on a killing spree. The first is strangled, the next brutally stabbed. When Cowell discovers a matching signature he realises that he and his new partner are searching for the area's first serial killer.
