Telemystery: Status of New, Renewed, and Canceled Network Series for Fall 2014

Telemystery: Mystery and Suspense on Television

The networks have been furiously announcing their new series and which of their existing series have been renewed or canceled. In advance of the upfront presentations next week, here is a summary of what we know so far:

ABC:

New: Secrets & Lies — Based on an Australian series of the same title, this drama centers on a patriarch who becomes the prime suspect in the murder of a young boy when he finds the body; How To Get Away With Murder — A sexy, suspense-driven legal thriller that centers on ambitious law students and their brilliant and mysterious criminal defense professor, who become entangled in a murder plot that could rock their entire university and change the course of their lives; Forever — Dr. Henry Morgan is New York City's star medical examiner … but what no one knows is Henry studies the dead because he is immortal.

Renewed: Castle, Once Upon a Time, Revenge.

Canceled: Betrayal.

CBS:

New: Battlecreek — Two detectives with very different worldviews are teamed up and must answer the question: Are cynicism, guile and deception enough to clean up the semi-mean streets of Battle Creek, Mich., in the face of a complete lack of resources; or is the exact opposite true, it takes naïveté, trust and a boatload of resources; CSI: Cyber — Technology, as we know it, has amplified human behavior to the point where faceless criminals are committing crimes at global proportions with a touch of a button; NCIS: New Orleans — The New Orleans NCIS office handles cases from Pensacola through Mississippi and Louisiana to the Texas panhandle; Stalker — Psychological thriller centered around a pair of detectives who handle stalking incidents for the Threat Management Unit of the LAPD.

Renewed: Blue Bloods, Criminal Minds, CSI, Elementary, Hawaii Five-O, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Person of Interest.

Canceled: Hostages.

Unknown: The Mentalist.

Fox:

New: Gotham — Explores the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon, a detective with the Gotham City Police Department, and his battle with the villains who made Gotham City famous; Backstrom — Based on a character created by Leif G. W. Persson, Detective Everett Backstrom, an offensive, irascible detective, tries, and fails, to change his self-destructive behavior while leading his team, the Serious Crimes Unit, as they navigate Portland's most sensitive cases.

Renewed: Bones, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Following, Sleepy Hollow.

Canceled: Almost Human.

NBC:

New: The Mysteries of Laura — Based on a Spanish format, this is a procedural drama with a sharp sense of humor following a quirky female homicide detective who juggles high-stakes crime as well as her ex-husband and devilish twin boys. (There are also two thriller series,
Allegiance and Odyssey, that we're not sure yet we'll include on our site.)

Renewed: The Blacklist, Chicago PD, Grimm, Hannibal, Law & Order SVU.

Canceled: Ironside (soon after it premiered).

We'll be posting breaking news on our new Telemystery Facebook page as well as trailers and other videos that will be made available once the upfronts are complete.
