Just as the fourth season of HBO's Game of Thrones gets underway, the cable network has renewed the series for two additional seasons.
"Game of Thrones is a phenomenon like no other," said Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Progamming. "David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with their talented collaborators, continue to surpass themselves, and we look forward to more of their dazzling storytelling."
Based on the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series of novels by George R. R. Martin, this fourth season is based on the second half of the third book in the series. Martin is currently writing the sixth book (of seven planned) so there is plenty of material to keep the screenwriters busy for at least two more seasons.
