Laurence Fishburne first played Walter Mosley's series character Socrates Fortlow in the 1998 film Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned, with the screenplay adapted by Mosley from his novel.
Now Fishburne is returning to the character in The Right Mistake, a series in development for HBO. Mosley again is involved in the adaptation, co-writing the script with Patrick Charles. (The Right Mistake is also the title of the third and most recent book in the series after featuring the character in two collections of short stories.)
Socrates Fortlow is an ex-convict, living in a tough neighborhood of Los Angeles while trying to turn his life around. The books in this series aren't mysteries per se, but as The Right Mistake is subtitled, "The Further Philosophical Investigations of Socrates Fortlow".
