Telemystery: NBC Orders Pilot for a Reimagined Murder, She Wrote

Telemystery: Mystery and Suspense on Television

NBC has ordered a pilot for a contemporary reimagination of Murder, She Wrote.

Octavia Spencer is set to star as a hospital administrator turned amateur sleuth after she self-publishes her first mystery novel. Alexandra Cunningham is writing the screenplay for Universal Television, which produced the original series for CBS.

Murder, She Wrote

Murder, She Wrote aired for 12 seasons and starred Angela Lansbury — who is reported to have been offered some role in the new series, though whether in front of or behind the camera is unclear — as mystery author Jessica Fletcher. Four made-for-television movies followed. The character is so popular that Jessica Fletcher (with co-author Donald Bain) continues to write mysteries to this day, the most recent in the series, Close-Up on Murder, being published just this month.
