20th Century Fox Television has optioned the Swedish conspiracy thriller De redan döda ("The Already Dead") by Robert Karjel to adapt as a television drama.
First published in 2010, the storyline opens at a desolate beach resort hotel in Thailand just after the tsunami of 2005, where a group of people have taken refuge, each with their own reasons for remaining missing.
The narrative then switches to the interrogation of a Swede in the custody of the FBI on the Indian Ocean island of Diego Garcia. The agent assigned to question him, also a Swede, begins to suspect that for unknown reasons the FBI may be as interested in him as they are in the man they have in custody.
HarperCollins has acquired the US publication rights to the book, though no date has been announced for its release.
