Here's some news we missed from earlier this summer … and a hat tip to one of our readers for pointing it out to us! The Canadian crime drama Murdoch Mysteries is currently airing in the US on the cable network Ovation … but under a different title: The Artful Detective.
Yannick Bisson stars as Toronto police detective William Murdoch, based on a character created by crime novelist Maureen Jennings. Set at the turn of the 20th century, it features the use of many forensic techniques that are routine today but quite novel then for solving crimes.
For many years, the only way to see the series was to watch the DVDs (which is how we were introduced to it). Netflix picked up the series a few years ago, but now many cable viewers can watch it on Ovation. Indeed, looking at their schedule, there is a marathon of episodes airing today (until 10 PM ET).
For those who may not yet receive Ovation, visit our Murdoch Mysteries page on Telemystery for the season DVDs; the sixth season set is released on November 26th, 2013 and may be pre-ordered. The seventh season premieres on CBC in Canada this coming Monday, September 30th.
