Dynamite to Publish Moriarty Comic by David Liss

Moriary Lives (2013)

Dynamite Entertainment will publish a five-issue comic featuring Sherlock Holmes's arch-nemesis Professor James Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes: Moriarty Lives, written by crime novelist David Liss and illustrated by Daniel Indro.

The storyline takes place after the events of "The Final Problem" in which Holmes and Moriarty presumably perished. As we all know, Holmes lived to see another day as does Moriarty here, who sets off on a solo adventure without Holmes.

In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Liss says, " I wanted to do a story about Moriarty, and that was the original plan. I was interested in the moment after they disappear over the falls [in "The Final Problem"]. I've always liked the idea of taking a villain and turning him into the hero of the story, just getting a different perspective."

As to more details about the plot, Liss adds, "I don't want to give too much away, but he's essentially in a position where he thinks he can do the right thing — and make some money. There are temptations to be moderately bad or be really bad, and that's one of the problem he faces. There are also people he's allied with who know basically who and what he is, who don't trust him, so there's a lot of cat and mouse going on. The reader is not going to be sure exactly how evil he is, and the people he's working with aren't sure how evil he is."

The first issue of Sherlock Holmes: Moriarty Lives comes out in December 2013.
