More Details about Potential Luther Film

Mystery, Suspense and Thriller Film News

Last weekend we reported that the third season of Luther, which premieres on BBC America on September 3rd, will be its last. And we also said that its creator, Neil Cross, was hoping there would be a film featuring the character.

Now we're learning that Cross is a little further along in the project than we thought. He has a prequel screenplay written.

"It will follow his career in the earlier days, when he is still married to Zoe," he told the Edinburgh Television Festival, "and the final scene in the film is the first of the initial TV series."

One has to wonder if Cross has simply adapted his novel The Calling, which was published last year and takes place prior to the events of the series. (You can read our review on Mysterious Reviews.)

Idris Elba is on board to reprise his role as DCI John Luther, as are some of the other recurring characters in the series … though Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson) won't appear as she doesn't fit chronologically. She is, however, the subject of a potential spin-off being pitched to BBC.
