Warner Bros. is expected to announce that it has acquired the screen rights to the Encyclopedia Brown mysteries by Donald J. Sobol, who died last year after writing 28 books in the series.
The first book in the series, Encyclopedia Brown, Boy Detective, was first published in 1963, and introduced Leroy "Encyclopedia" Brown, the son of a police chief who runs his own detective agency. Each book includes 10 stories or cases, usually related in some manner, which can be solved by the reader using the clues provided.
We're assuming that the studio is aiming for a younger audience, possibly teens, though many years ago Warner Bros. was considering a film version of the books featuring Chevy Chase in the role of Encyclopedia Brown and Goldie Hawn as his sidekick Sally Kimball.
We've read a few of the books in the series, including the 25th to be published, featured below.
