Maigret (France): Set Seven

Set Seven

Bruno Cremer brings the beloved Parisian Inspector Maigret to life in this definitive series of filmed adaptations of mystery writer Georges Simenon's bestselling crime novels.

Sporting his pipe that seems a nod to Sherlock Holmes, the pragmatic, reserved and refined Maigret investigates murders in his singular unhurried manner and inevitably discovers the truth. To crack his cases he peels back the veneer of seemingly idyllic villages and neighborhoods, exposing the criminals who lurk in all levels of society.

Against a backdrop of 1950s Paris and the surrounding French countryside, these original feature-length films pay homage to one of the most brilliant detective minds of the twentieth century.

In French with English subtitles, this set includes episodes 37 through 42, which originally aired in France in 2002 and 2003.

Barnaby's Last Cases

The cozy villages of Midsomer County reveal their most sinister secrets in these contemporary British television mysteries.

Inspired by the novels of Caroline Graham, a modern master of the English village mystery, this collection features John Nettles as the unflappable Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby investigating his final cases in the murderous county. Jason Hughes co-stars as his earnest, efficient protégé, Detective Sergeant Ben Jones.

The 15 episodes in this set have been previously released as Sets 17 through 20. Tom Barnaby's successor, his cousin John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon), is introduced in "The Sword of Guillaume", which is included in this set.

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries: Series One

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
Series One

In 1920s Melbourne, the Honorable Phryne Fisher (Essie Davis) is a thoroughly modern woman operating in a mostly male world. The glamorous "lady detective" goes about her work with a pistol close at hand — and, more often than not, a male admirer even closer.

To the dismay of Detective Inspector Jack Robinson (Nathan Page), Phryne's investigations take her through back alleys, jazz clubs, and shady neighborhoods. Ignoring the dangers all around her, she glides through life determined to enjoy every moment. But beneath her devil-may-care attitude, Phryne hides ghosts from the past that continue to haunt her.

This series is based on a character created by crime novelist Kerry Greenwood. The episodes in this season have been adapted from Greenwood's novels.
