Telemystery, your source for one of the most comprehensive listings of crime drama, amateur sleuth, private investigator, mystery and suspense television series, mini-series and made-for-television movies, now available on or coming soon to DVD or Blu-ray disc, is profiling three series from our site being released this week.

Cagney & Lacey: Season Two

Cagney & Lacey
Season Two

Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly star as Cagney & Lacey, two NYPD homicide detectives, in this series that aired for six — or seven, depending on how much of a purist you are — seasons on CBS from 1982 through 1988. Several made-for-television movies were also released after the series run.

"Season Two" (as shown here) is actually the second full season that starred Sharon Gless's Cagney as partner to Tyne Daly's Lacey. The original pilot had Loretta Swit playing Cagney, who was replaced by Meg Foster in the first six episodes; these episodes are rarely seen any more and it seems CBS would just as soon forget they ever existed since it calls the first episode of the first season of the series the one that first starred Gless.

Anyway, the second season (or third, if you will) is now available on DVD.

Cagney & Lacey: The Complete Series

The bigger news, however, might be the release of The Complete Series, which again is something of a misnomer. This is actually the "complete series" only in terms of Sharon Gless starring as Cagney.

However, if you are interested in the complete "complete series" — which is called the Cagney & Lacey Limited Edition — you can order that directly from the CagneyAndLacey.com website. It is, somewhat paradoxically, priced about $40 less than the The Complete Series but when shipping costs are included — it ships from Canada — the price is about the same. Still, it does include the pilot and the six "missing" episodes starring Foster as Lacey (plus lots of other content).

The link below is for The Complete Series (32 discs) from Amazon, not The Limited Edition (36 discs), which can only be ordered from the CagneyAndLacey.com website.

Mannix: Season Eight

Mannix
Season Eight

This action-packed detective drama about a tough and cynical private investigator stars Mike Connors stars as the title character.

Mannix is a hard-boiled and gritty detective who constantly defies rules and regulations and is able to take a flurry of fist fights, high-speed car chases and bullet wounds in stride.

This eighth and final season of the series originally aired from September 1974 through April 1975 on CBS.

McMillan and Wife: The Complete Series

McMillan and Wife
The Complete Series

San Francisco Police Commissioner Stewart "Mac" McMillan (Rock Hudson) and his amateur detective wife, Sally (Susan St. James), keep their marriage unpredictable while solving the city's most baffling crimes.

Take a nostalgic trip back to 1970s California-cool in this riveting "whodunit" series featuring one of prime-time television's most loved on-screen couples.

McMillan and Wife — and later just McMillan — was one of the rotating NBC Murder Mystery Movies. It aired for six seasons in total, but the last season did not feature Sally, as she was written out of the series at the end of the fifth season.

Forty feature-length episodes are included in this set, which originally aired from September 1971 through April 1977.
