A Mysterious Review of …
Luther: The Calling by Neil Cross. A John Luther Mystery.
Review summary: There is a very visual feel to this police procedural-style thriller, which is not surprising given the author's close association with the television series from which this book is derived. The narrative is crisp and descriptive, the dialog rings true. But there's also a rough edge to it. Readers should be advised that this is a very graphic, very violent, indeed very troubling crime novel. (Click here for text of full review.)

Luther: The Calling
Neil Cross
A John Luther Mystery
Touchstone (September 2012)
Publisher synopsis: Meet Detective Chief Inspector John Luther. He's a murder detective with an extraordinary case-clearance rate. He's obsessive, instinctive, and intense. Nobody who ever stood at his side has a bad word to say about him. And yet there are rumors that Luther is bad — not corrupt, not on the take, but tormented. After years of chasing the most depraved criminals in London's gritty underworld, he seethes with a hidden fury that at times he can barely control. Sometimes it sends him to the brink of madness, making him do things any other detective wouldn't and shouldn't do.
