Take Our Poll: Full or Abbreviated RSS Feed for Omnimystery News

Omnimystery News: Site News

We are planning on making some (minor and mostly behind-the-scenes) changes to our blog come 2013, but one change we're considering may not be so minor.

Over the past few years we've expanded the reach of Omnimystery News into almost all areas of mystery-related or -themed entertainment. As a result, we now average more than ten posts a day, and see that only growing in number in the future. We syndicate our blog via RSS and have thousands of subscribers, for which we are very grateful.

RSS syndication takes two general forms: a summary of our day's posts e-mailed to you overnight; and posts when they are published available within an RSS reader. Both are currently sent as "full", meaning you see everything in the post as it is published. However, we have the option to send abbreviated content, just the first 400 characters or so, unformatted and without images, with the option to click over to the post itself if you're interested in reading more.

Right now we're sending "full" posts via RSS. But we think it might be beneficial, and possibly preferable, to our subscribers to send "abbreviated" posts.

(If you're one of our Twitter followers, you already get a very abbreviated version of our post, just the title as a tweet. That will not change.)

We don't want to make any major changes without your input, so we've placed a poll on our blog's sidebar, asking you to vote for what you would like us to do: Retain the current "full" format in our RSS feeds, or switch over to an "abbreviated" format. You can also vote as having "No opinion".

We would sincerely appreciate if you would take the time to register your vote on how you would like to receive our RSS feed in the future. We will definitely take into consideration your input when we make our decision. In the meantime, we thank you so very much for reading Omnimystery News and for being a subscriber to our RSS feed.

  1. My interest is exclusively in Mystery/Crime BOOKS. I'd greatly prefer to be able to receive those posts only, in full, with an option to access your other (and majority)content: games, television, film.

  2. Usually the most important info is in the lead sentences, so changing might give readers more info. and let them better decide to click on the full content.
