Here's some award news we missed from a couple days ago.
Crime novelist Don Winslow has been honored with the Raymond Chandler Award, which he will receive at the Courmayeur Noir Film Festival later this year. The best of cinema and literature in the field of thriller, mystery, espionage, horror and science fiction noir is featured at the festival in the Italian Alps.
"I've always believed in a powerful osmosis between noir and cinema," said Winslow, "and personally I think that my writing style was very much influenced by the big screen. Unconsciously, because I grew up with movies; consciously, because I've been contaminated by the works of directors such as Truffaut, Fellini and John Woo. Films like 8½ and La Strada encouraged me to take risks with the creative structure of my novels, especially Savages."
