PBS's The Mystery of Edwin Drood, New on DVD and Blu-ray Disc

The Mystery of Edwin Drood (PBS)

PBS's adaptation of Charles Dickens's unfinished novel The Mystery of Edwin Drood is released today on DVD and Blu-ray disc … a disturbing tale of obsession, addiction, and the darkness that lurks in men.

Matthew Rhys stars as John Jasper, a man haunted and restless. Unhappily settled as choirmaster in the provincial cathedral town of Cloisterham, Jasper finds himself striving for the divine in his music even as he struggles against madness brought on by ennui and opiates. Aware of his unraveling, Jasper believes his salvation may be found in the arms of Rosa (Tamzin Merchant), his prized pupil. His only obstacle is her fiancé, Edwin Drood — Jasper's nephew (Freddie Fox).

The Penguin Classics edition of the book (shown above) includes a critical introduction that assesses the evidence to show whether the mystery can truly be solved, as well as a chronology, illustrations, and appendixes.

The Mystery of Edwin Drood aired earlier this month on PBS's Masterpiece Classic. Watch a 30-second preview below:
