Jane Eyre is one of those classic novels with a combination of mysterious characters, atmospheric setting, and a haunting plot that adapts perfectly for the screen. Indeed, according to IMDB, there have been over 20 film productions of the Gothic suspense novel by Charlotte Brontë over the past 100 years.
Next year, yet another version hits theaters, and if its promotional poster (shown, right) and new trailer (watch it below) are any indication, it's going to be stunning.
In the story, Jane Eyre (Mia Wasikowska) flees Thornfield House, where she works as a governess for wealthy Edward Rochester (Michael Fassbender). The isolated and imposing residence –- and Mr. Rochester’s coldness –- have sorely tested the young woman’s resilience, forged years earlier when she was orphaned. As Jane reflects upon her past and recovers her natural curiosity, she will return to Mr. Rochester –- and the terrible secret that he is hiding …
Directed by Cary Fukunaga from a screenplay by Moira Buffini, Jane Eyre opens in theaters March 2011. The trailer is via Yahoo! Movies.
