Jesse Stone Movies May Be Headed to Cable

Tom Selleck as Jesse Stone

Last week CBS announced it was no longer interested in airing the "Jesse Stone" made-for-television movies.

Now we're learning that Sony Pictures Television, which produces the films, is shopping the series to a cable network. This is consistent with what star Tom Selleck, who plays Jesse Stone, has said all along, that he's not done with the character … even if CBS abandons it.

Selleck has co-executive produced and co-written the last few screenplays of the series with Michael Brandman, who recently took over writing the "Jesse Stone" mystery novels following the death of creator Robert B. Parker.

Jesse Stone is the chief of police of the small coastal community of Paradise, Massachusetts. In the most recent movie, "Benefit of the Doubt", he returned to the position after having lost it at the end of the fifth film in the series, "Thin Ice". "Benefit of the Doubt" will be available on DVD August 7th, 2012.
