Sergeant Alexandra Fox came to America to find the man who had brutally murdered her sister. A man the press called The Escape Artist. Could a British Sergeant fit in with the NYPD? Not if Commander Patterson had anything to do with it.

Suspended with only two friends in America — Chief Brown, a long time family friend, and retired Sergeant Matt "Nobby" Adams, Alex has seven days to find three kidnapped babies, or look for a new job.

Her investigation leads her into a world of deception, that turns tragic before it even begins, and a helping hand from the one person she hated the most — The Escape Artist.

Diamonds — elegant, alluring and dangerous as sin. Once a man's soul is seduced, he's lost. That's when baser instincts take control.

Deadly Legacy, the second book in my Emmeline Kirby-Gregory Longdon mystery series, is about stolen diamonds … and revenge.

The "Heist of the Century."

The notorious February 2003 robbery of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre was the spark that set this tale in motion in my mind. A group of Italian thieves stole $100 million in loose diamonds, gold and other jewelry from what was supposed to be a supersecure vault. How was it done? To this day, no one can explain it. Only one man was caught and sentenced to ten years in prison. He had ties to the Mafia. Purportedly, his cousin was tapped to become a capo dei capi, the head of the entire organization. But the jewels were never recovered.

This captivated my imagination. How could all of those breathtaking diamonds have simply vanished? Then I thought, what if someone had found them seven years later? Wouldn't they be too tempting for even the hardiest soul to resist, let alone someone who already views the law with disdain? But I was not content with that premise. I felt I needed another dimension, another twist. After all, crime begets crime. So I decided to invent another diamond theft. This one, though, took place in London during World War II. The past's ugly secrets haunting the present. Fiction interwoven with real life. Here at last I had my story. A story where the ultimate — the only — outcome is murder.

Thus, journalist Emmeline Kirby gets dragged into the sordid search for the diamonds after her friend Claire's fiancé, Ambrose Trent, is killed. Murder is such a nasty business, but so many things about Ambrose didn't ring true.

Emmeline's suspicions prove justified. However, there's only one man who can help her find the truth and ensure that justice is done. A man with secrets of his own. A man at ease in the best drawing rooms and among the criminal classes. That man is Gregory Longdon — charmer, jewel thief and Emmeline's former lover. Ever since Gregory reappeared in her life, it's been nothing but trouble. Not only is her heart at risk, but her very life as well.

If Deadly Legacy piques your interest, you won't want to miss Lead Me Into Danger, Emmeline and Gregory's first adventure which takes them from Venice to London as they try to unmask a Russian spy in the British Foreign Office.

Pietr the Latvian by Georges Simenon

An Inspector Maigret Mystery (1st in series)

Publisher: Audible Studios

Audible Daily Deal Price: $1.95

Pietr the Latvian by Georges Simenon, Amazon Kindle format

Inevitably Maigret was a hostile presence in the Majestic. He constituted a kind of foreign body that the hotel's atmosphere could not assimilate. Not that he looked like a cartoon policeman. He didn't have a moustache and he didn't wear heavy boots. His clothes were well cut and made of fairly light worsted. He shaved every day and looked after his hands. But his frame was proletarian. He was a big, bony man. His firm muscles filled out his jacket and quickly pulled all his trousers out of shape. He had a way of imposing himself just by standing there. His assertive presence had often irked many of his own colleagues.

In this first novel featuring Maigret, the laconic detective is taken from grimy bars to luxury hotels as he traces the true identity of Pietr the Latvian.

Only two seasons matter in Coho Bay, Alaska — cruise ship and winter. Caribou King, owner of The Broken Antler Gallery, is hip-deep in tourists when her old college pal Taylor shows up asking for refuge, saying she has no place else to go. Cara is cautious; Taylor was the wife of one of Alaska's most renowned artists — — Jonathan Snow, who was mauled to death by a bear the previous year. Why would his widow want to return to the location of her tragic loss? Something about Taylor's story just doesn't ring true.

Of course, she may not be the only liar in town. Taylor's former father-in-law accuses her of killing his son in front of a diner full of people, except he may have had a stronger motive. A handsome boat captain seems to fancy both Cara and Taylor but he can't make up his mind between them — — or between lying and telling the truth. The local constable mistrusts everyone, but may have a reason to be mistrusted himself. Will Cara help her old friend Taylor, or will doing so get her into a heap of trouble? When a headless body is discovered in the bay, Cara wonders just who she can trust in this tiny town.
