New, Starkly Minimalist Poster for Killing Them Softly

Killing Them Softly (November 2012)

A new, starkly minimalist US poster for the crime thriller Killing Them Softly has been released by the studio (right; click for slightly larger image.) No tagline, but then again, one probably isn't necessary.

Adapted from George V. Higgins's 1974 crime novel and set in New Orleans — the book is set in Boston — Killing Them Softly follows professional enforcer, Jackie Cogan (Brad Pitt), who investigates a heist that occurs during a high stakes, mob-protected, poker game.

Directed by Andrew Dominik from his own adapted screenplay, Killing Them Softly opens in theaters November 30th, 2012.

Review: Death in the Floating City by Tasha Alexander

Mysterious Reviews: Reviews of New Mysteries, Novels of Suspense, and Thrillers

A Mysterious Review of …

Death in the Floating City by Tasha Alexander. A Lady Emily Mystery.

Review summary: The author makes 19th century Venice come alive in this historical whodunit, with its palaces and canals, its people and traditions. The mystery is interesting and well crafted, if also a little convoluted, spanning several centuries of familial conflict. Still, it is Lady Emily and her resourcefulness that makes the journey to the site of her investigation worthwhile. (Click here for text of full review.)

Cinemystery: Locke & Key Graphic Novels to be Adapted into Film Trilogy

Cinemystery: Crime Novels Adapted for Film

A film trilogy adaptation of Locke & Key, a series of graphic novels by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, is apparently a go for Universal. Roberto Orci appended the word "true" to a tweet asking for confirmation. Orci is expected to co-write a screenplay with frequent writing partner Alex Kurtzman.

A television adaptation of the series was considered by Fox in 2011, which got far enough along in the project to order a pilot written and produced by Orci and Kurtzman, but was not developed further. The trailer for that pilot can be seen below. It isn't clear if any of the work that went into the pilot, including any of the cast, will be a part of the film trilogy adaptation.
