A Small Death in the Great Glen by A. D. Scott, Amazon Kindle format

In the Highlands of 1950s Scotland, a boy is found dead in a canal lock. Two young girls tell such a fanciful story of his disappearance that no one believes them. The local newspaper staff — including Joanne Ross, the part-time typist embroiled in an abusive marriage, and her boss, a seasoned journalist determined to revamp the paper — set out to uncover and investigate the crime. Suspicion falls on several townspeople, all of whom profess their innocence. Alongside these characters are the people of the town and neighboring glens; a refugee Polish sailor; an Italian family whose café boasts the first known cappuccino machine in the north of Scotland; and a corrupt town clerk subverting the planning laws to line his own pocket.

Together, these very different Scots harbor deep and troubling secrets underneath their polished and respectable veneers — revelations that may prevent the crime from being solved and may keep the town firmly in the clutches of its shadowy past.

Seattle homicide prosecutor David Brunelle faces a prosecutorial nightmare. A drug addict-turned-police informant is found murdered, his body dumped publicly as a warning to others. The prime suspect is the drug lord the dead man was snitching out. And the only witnesses to the murder were also accomplices to it.

Decisions have to be made, and deals have to be cut. Brunelle struggles through a maze of coconspirators and defense attorneys to answer the questions at the core of his dilemma: Who deserves a break? And who deserves the full punishment of the law?

Will a collection of scared drug addicts and loyal hangers-on be willing to testify against a man who already killed one police informant? And even if they are, will the jury believe anyone whose testimony was purchased with a plea bargain?

Eleven years later, Risa has seemingly put her life back together again, comforted by the love of her new husband, who is a local politician, and the knowledge that Carol's killer has been convicted. But then just as suddenly as he disappeared, Sean resurfaces — sober, plagued by horrific recollections of Carol's murder, and convinced he was the real killer.

Sean's startling claim buzzes through the small, football-crazy Pennsylvania community, and Risa is left to wonder if the man she still loves actually committed the grisly murder. Her growing belief in his innocence sends her on a treacherous search for the truth: a search that reveals ugly secrets that her new husband and the town's law enforcement community are hiding.

Emboldened by her discoveries, Risa convinces Sean to flee as the town's violent forces move in to keep the truth from coming to light. But Risa doesn't realize that her attempts to get vindication for Sean may come at a very high price.

To prove Elliot's innocence and save her damaged career, Ruby is running an unsanctioned mission — but the only way to get the proof she needs is to go to Jax with her tail between her legs.

Jaxon left the Navy after the mission with Ruby in Morocco went south, but that one hot, unbelievable night with her will haunt him forever. Working for Shadow Force International now, his new assignment has brought him full circle — the CIA operative Jax's testimony sent to prison has escaped and Jax has been ordered to hunt him down. Just like in Morocco, the one thing standing in his way is Ruby.

When Ruby's life is threatened and Jax stumbles on information that might prove Elliot is innocent, guilt over putting the man in prison compels him to join her unsanctioned mission. What really happened that night six months ago? Is Elliot an honorable spy or a mastermind at manipulation? Ruby is the only one who can help Jax navigate the world of undercover lies and betrayal to find the truth.

Evan, looking to hire him to find a missing dog.

As a miner with a reputation for "bloodhounding" — tracking down missing persons the police can't find or won't — Slim is accustomed to looking for people, not pets. On the other hand, he needs the cash to fix his air conditioner. But when he pulls the thread that leads to the Cleaveses' red-haired purebred pitbull — and then the dognapper is discovered with his head blown off — Slim finds himself plunged into a world of underground dogfights and white supremacists … all because he just wanted to get cool.

Amazon announced earlier this month that it has ordered to series Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan to debut on Amazon Prime Video. The one-hour, 10-episode dramatic series is slated to star John Krasinski as Jack Ryan and is projected to shoot in the US, Europe and Africa. Jack Ryan is a reinvention with a modern sensibility of the famed and lauded Tom Clancy hero.

"We're excited to add the Jack Ryan global franchise to our robust originals pipeline," said Roy Price, head of Amazon Studios. "Our customers will enjoy a compelling adaptation of the action-packed spy thriller book series."

The series follows Ryan as he uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the center of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of terrorism that threatens destruction on a global scale.

An expected premiere date was not announced.

When Jenny McCleary leases her property to be ravaged by the annual mud bog races, the small rural town of Sabal Bay, Florida, is divided into warring camps: environmental activists versus monster truck fans. Jenny, who frequents the consignment store owned by Eve Appel and her friend Madeleine, doesn't seem to mind when Eve and Madeleine join the protesters the day of the races. During the race, Eve catches Jenny's airborne head after it is tossed into the air by the wheels of a truck. Now every protester is a suspect in Jenny's murder.

What's left of her alligator-gnawed body is found near the airboat business of Eve's Miccosukee Indian friends, Sammy Egret and his grandfather. When more evidence turns up nearby, Grandfather is arrested. Even without the disembodied head, Eve has her hands full. The town resents her role in the protests and is boycotting the consignment shop on wheels. She is torn between two men — GQ-handsome, devoted PI Alex and tall, dark, and exotic Sammy. Jenny's sweet and needy teenage daughter is dating a petty criminal.

Will Eve and Madeleine ever be able to move into their new digs? Not unless the town forgives them. And not if whoever decapitated Jenny gets to Eve before she and her sleuthing buddies solve the mystery.

An Excerpt from A Portrait To Die For by Radine Trees Nehring

Omnimystery News: An Excerpt courtesy of Radine Trees Nehring

We are delighted to welcome author Radine Trees Nehring to Omnimystery News today.

Last week we had the pleasure of spending some time with Radine talking about her new mystery A Portrait To Die For (Dark Oak Mysteries; April 2016 trade paperback and ebook formats) and today we're pleased to share an excerpt from it with you.

— ♦ —

AT 8:20 THE NEXT MORNING CATHERINE sat in her car outside the workshop at Fred's and wondered who was inside the building. There were two trucks parked in the lot. She supposed the newer pickup with the business name and logo on the door was Freda's.
The other truck was unmarked. Maybe it was the older pickup she had seen here yesterday. She hadn't paid much attention to it then, and wasn't good at identifying trucks unless an automaker had displayed their company name and vehicle style prominently on the tailgate.
  8:25.
Well, nothing ventured. Daddy had said that. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained."
Zero hour. Catherine opened her car door and slid out, putting her cell phone in her pocket.
Twenty steps to the open shop door, and then Catherine was inside. It was very quiet. Should she say something? No, not yet at least.
Two steps. Lots of stuff, but no person, no sound, no movement but her own.
  Two more steps.
Something on the concrete floor caught her attention. Blobs of oil? She stopped to stare, bent over to look more closely.
Drops of blood. Fresh enough to be red. Oh, dear God, NO.
Catherine started to turn back toward her car and run. Panic had her breathing like a steam engine though she was trying to be quiet, to give no sign she was there. She must get to her car and hurry to safety, to be with Carrie and Henry. Get away, Get away! Get to Carrie and Henry, get them to come back here with her.
A groan stopped her, freezing her steps as she started toward the door.
Her mind tried to work sensibly. Someone groaning probably wasn't going to attack her. Someone was hurt and needed help.
She turned around again and took two more steps into the building, avoiding the drops.
  Step. Step.
A weapon! She should have a weapon in case something horrible and dangerous faced her on the other side of those boxes. The workbench next to her offered a huge hammer. She started to lift it, found it too heavy for one arm, re-enforced her grasp with her other hand and, hammer raised, moved forward again.
End of the row of boxes. With the hammer held as high as she could lift it, she went around the stack.
A shriek. Oh! That was her voice.
A choked laugh came from someone propped up against the back of the box stack. Another person faced her — Freda, with a raised hammer.

The Belial Stone by R. D. Brady, Amazon Kindle format

An innocent discovery on a Montana ranch two years ago, sets off a series of events that may very well change the world … if it doesn't end it first …

Professor Delaney McPhearson's life is turned upside down when her best friend, archaeologist Drew Masters, is found dead. Before she can deal with the heartbreaking loss, she is viciously attacked in her home by a man with inhuman fighting abilities.

Former Navy SEAL and head of security for a global think tank, Jake Rogan drops everything when he hears his foster brother, Tom Jeffries, has gone missing. There seem to be no clues, no information about his whereabouts. He has just vanished. But Jake won't rest until he finds him.

Laney and Jake join forces when they learn that the fates of their loved ones are intertwined. And somehow all the danger that dogs their steps, revolves around an eccentric archaeologist's controversial work on Gobekli Tepe, and the search for an ancient source of power.

Their personal quest soon becomes a race to protect humanity's very existence. But how can they defeat a foe who has been planning his moves for millennia?

To save mankind, Laney and Jake know they must succeed. But to succeed, they must live long enough to fight.

Under the heartless vault of Greenland's arctic sky the body of a girl is discovered. Half-naked and tied up, buried hundreds of miles from any signs of life, she has lain alone, hidden in the ice cap, for twenty-five years. Now an ice melt has revealed her.

When Detective Chief Superintendent Konrad Simonsen is flown in to investigate this horrific murder and he sees how she was attacked, it triggers a dark memory and he realizes this was not the killer's only victim. As Simonsen's team works to discover evidence that has long since been buried, they unearth truths that certain people would prefer stayed forgotten. Disturbing details about the moral standing of some of Denmark's political figures are revealed and powerful individuals are suddenly working against the case. But the pressure is on as it becomes clear that the killer chooses victims who all look unsettlingly similar, a similarity that may be used to the investigators' advantage — just so long as they can keep the suspect in their sights.
