Telemystery: Showtime Renews Homeland for 3rd Season

Telemystery: Mystery and Suspense on Television

Showtime has made the (unsurprising) decision to renew its Emmy Award-winning drama Homeland for a third season.

"The Emmy wins for Homeland have certainly set the stage for a great second season," said David Nevins, Showtime Entertainment president. "The writers, cast and crew of Homeland continue to create a remarkably entertaining and suspenseful roller coaster ride, growing audiences week after week."

Hero or traitor? M.I.A. in Afghanistan for eight years and subjected to unthinkable torture at the hands of al-Qaeda, Marine Sgt. Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) is finally coming home. CIA officer Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) believes he has been turned and become part of a plot to be carried out on American soil. But the volatile Carrie has some demons of her own.

In addition to its 2012 Emmy win for Best Drama, both Claire Danes and Damian Lewis won Emmys for their lead performances.

The 12-episode third season will likely premiere in Fall 2013.

An Agatha Raisin Mystery
Minotaur Books (September 2012)

Publisher synopsis: Agatha Raisin is as feisty as ever — armed with her famous wit and biting sense of humor. This time, though, there's some biting of a whole other sort going on. Agatha has fallen head over heels in love — again. This time, she has her eye on the local gardener, George Marston, but so do other women in their little Cotswold village. Shamelessly determined, Agatha will do anything to get her man — including footing the bill for a charity ball just for the chance to dance with him. And then George doesn't even show up. Only partly deterred, Agatha goes looking for him, and finds his dead body in a compost heap. Murder is definitely afoot, but this killer chose no ordinary weapon: A poisonous snake delivered the fatal strike.

Rising to the occasion, Agatha rallies her little detective agency to find the killer, only to learn that George had quite a complicated love life. But murderously complicated? Well, if she can't have George, at least Agatha can have the satisfaction of confronting the other women and solving the crime.

New Regency Fast-Tracking Film Adaptation of Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed (Ubisoft)

Earlier this summer we learned that Ubisoft's popular action-adventure video game Assassin's Creed was being adapted for film, with Michael Fassbender set to star.

Today New Regency Productions together with Ubisoft Motion Pictures announced the project was being fast-tracked, starting with the immediate development of a screenplay.

"Bringing aboard New Regency's renowned production and distribution expertise while maintaining our own creative and financial flexibility ensures that Assassin's Creed will be a high-quality film that respects the lore and fans of the video game franchise," said said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO, Ubisoft Motion Pictures.

Launched in 2007, the "Assassin's Creed" games have sold more than 40 million units worldwide. There are three basic storylines relating to the various titles and platform versions to date, with the most recent, Assassin's Creed III, scheduled for release later this month, set during the American Revolutionary War.

Craig Stevens plays Gunn, Pete to his friends, a handsome, suave detective tough enough to take on the hardest of hard cases, but a soft touch when it comes to the ladies. His girlfriend, the gorgeous singer Edie Hart, Lola Albright is the featured singer at "Mother's", a smoke-filled jazz club used by Gunn as his unofficial office. Other regulars at the club include a colorful cast of musicians, pool hustlers, artists and a sculptor. His standard fee is $1,000.00, and his reputation keeps the customers lined up for his services, sometimes referred by Mother, or his police buddy Lt. Jacoby.

A man with expensive tastes, Peter Gunn drives a stylish two-tone Plymouth Fury Convertible, equipped with a mobile phone!

So settle into your favorite easy chair, dim the lights, and enjoy this classic series, one of the best TV detective shows ever!

Peter Gunn aired for three seasons of 30 minute episodes from 1958 through 1961, the first two seasons on NBC, the final one on ABC.

NBC's Grimm To Inspire Series of Graphic Novels and Comic Books

Grimm (NBC)

In news from earlier this month, Dynamite Entertainment announced that it would publish a series of comic books and graphic novels based on the NBC crime series Grimm.

In Grimm, Homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt of the Portland Police Bureau learns he is descended from a line of "guardians" known as "Grimms", charged with keeping balance between humanity and the mythological creatures called "Wesen". Throughout the episodes, he must battle against an assortment of dangerous creatures, with help from his friend Monroe (who is a reformed creature), and his partner Detective Hank Griffin.

"The opportunity to delve even deeper into the Grimm universe is an exciting prospect. One we hope fans of the show and comic books in general will equally enjoy," said executive producers David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf. "The medium will allow the story to go places we never could within the constraints of a television production. It's pretty cool."

The first comic is expected to be available early in 2013.

Casey Cleburne is the descendant of the great Confederate General, Patrick Cleburne. Beautiful and intelligent, she's a single mom with two boys working as the personal assistant for the newly-elected President of the United States.

Enter Secret Service agent Phillip Henry "Colt" Sheridan IV, the descendant of the renowned Union General, Phil Sheridan — enormous, handsome and brilliant, Colt has earned himself the nickname of "The Anti-Christ" in the ranks of the secret service for his intimidating persona and no-nonsense tactics. Colt is newly assigned as President Talbot's Special Agent in Charge and when the descendants of two great Civil War generals meet face to face for the first time in the halls of the West Wing, sparks fly as the woman the president fondly calls "The General" clashes with the man known as The Anti-Christ.

But the sparks swiftly turn into genuine interest, and Casey and Colt soon find themselves enveloped in a powerful romance. Danger and intrigue lie below the surface, however — although Colt is indeed a Secret Service agent, he is also a double agent for a rogue government branch called The Core. The Core is privy to information that the new president has conducted illegal activities in the past and Colt has been carefully positioned in the president's entourage to uncover enough evidence to impeach the man. Colt's directive is to use anyone he can to accomplish this task and he has been specifically ordered to get close to Casey. Although Colt tries to keep his feelings a bay, he quickly falls in love with the beautiful woman, muddling his drive to complete his mission as he realizes he can't hurt her and he can't use her. Complicating the issue is the fact that the president becomes a personal friend to both Colt and Casey, and soon Colt is resisting his mission altogether. The Core, however, is full of maverick agents and vicious assassins, and they threaten Casey's when they realize Colt has lost his focus to destroy the president. To protect both Casey and the president, Colt offers a final solution to The Core that could see him sacrificing his own life for the safety of those he loves.
