Twenty-year-old Finley Montgomery is rarely alone. Visited by people whom others can't see and haunted by prophetic dreams, she has never been able to control or understand the things that happen to her. When Finley's abilities start to become too strong for her to handle — and even the roar of her motorcycle or another dazzling tattoo can't drown out the voices — she turns to the only person she knows who can help her: her grandmother Eloise Montgomery, a renowned psychic living in The Hollows, New York.

Merri Gleason is a woman at the end of her tether after a ten-month-long search for her missing daughter, Abbey. With almost every hope exhausted, she resorts to hiring Jones Cooper, a detective who sometimes works with psychic Eloise Montgomery. Merri's not a believer, but she's just desperate enough to go down that road, praying that she's not too late. Time, she knows, is running out.

As a harsh white winter moves into The Hollows, Finley and Eloise are drawn into the investigation, which proves to have much more at stake than even the fate of a missing girl. As Finley digs deeper into the town and its endless layers, she is forced to examine the past, even as she tries to look into the future. Only one thing is clear: The Hollows gets what it wants, no matter what.

MY MIND UNLOCKED ITSELF FROM ITS hinges, scattering images of elephants in tutus and merchants in top hats marching up and down the dirt roads of a Wild Wild West set. I forced my eyes open just as a giant boa constrictor's wide-open jaws scratched the top of my head. My reward was the ceiling's gentle swaying. I found it relaxing for a moment. Then it ratcheted up to out-of-control carousel speed, and I shut my eyes tight.
I sucked in air until my lungs ached. God? Remember me? Are You up there? The long, slow exhalation spread drowsiness down my body. I squeezed Nick's Leatherman, enjoying the sensation of its hard steel edges and the contrasting warmth of its plastic handle.
Large dark swans swooped low overhead. Graceful, otherworldly, foreboding. The most beautiful of the swans fell away from the head of the formation and dove straight toward me. The beauty disintegrated into evil. Its beak turned into the vicious jaws of a great white shark. I lay there, paralyzed, unable to move while the threat careened toward me. It was less than ten feet away when I woke up.
The graceful swan loomed over me. I shook my head, blinked, and looked again at the apparition before me. Scrubs, hair pulled back — it was a tall nurse with dark hair. I couldn't make out the nametag, but I knew this nurse, didn't I? There was something about The Nurse's face. Something dark and alarming.
Niagara Falls cascaded through my mind. She looked down at me with a sneer, her lips moving. What was she saying?
Focus Josie, focus. I closed my eyes once more, shook my head twice, and opened them again, feeling more than seeing the terrible scene. The smooth flow of the IV drip wavered out of focus, and the lithe figure etched in white against the gray walled backdrop of the room came into view. The nurse's face was shining, her eyes were dark, and she held a needle in her hand.
The smog of morphine dulled my fear, and for reasons I couldn't understand, I looked right at her and laughed. The thought of her dressed as a cartoon-like nurse, looming large and threatening me with an oversized needle, struck me as hilarious. The more I thought of it, the more I laughed.
The nurse, however, was not amused.
Black rage covered her features, and the needle started to tremble. My eyes widened in surprise, but I couldn't hold back the laughter. This was all wrong, and that made it seem even funnier to me. Her enraged face seemed to swell as she stood over me.
The nurse pushed the plunger on the hypodermic needle to squeeze out any air.
"Wh, why bodder if you gonna kill me anyway?" My tongue wasn't working. I was genuinely curious, but I couldn't get the words out straight.
Her head shook angrily as he/she flicked the tip of the needle with the end of her middle finger. She cocked an eyebrow, staring down at me in surprise. "You're drunk. How quaint." She smiled tightly while her eyes raged on.
Terror and anger rubbed up against the edges of my morphine-induced tangle of emotions. One stone-cold thought seeped through the mist — she was going to kill me. This was it. The nurse's one wide open shot at getting the vecuronium into my system in a way that no one would ever suspect. I'd die without a fuss, without a whimper. Without a witness. Would it hurt? Would I even feel it? How could you feel paralysis?
Nick's face floated across my mind …

Please Welcome Thriller Writer Rich DiSilvio

Omnimystery News: Guest Post by Rich DiSilvio

We are delighted to welcome author Rich DiSilvio to Omnimystery News today.

Rich's new dark thriller is My Nazi Nemesis (DV Books; January 2016 trade paperback and ebook formats) and we asked him to give us the backstory to it.

Rich DiSilvio

I'm often asked how the story of My Nazi Nemesis came about. Oddly enough, it materialized from only the first scene of the novel, which had been a recurring dream I had over a two-year period. The vivid and haunting "Deathfall" scene had finally driven me to the point of sitting down to try to build a full picture out of this one little puzzle piece.

This brief scene only involved the two main characters, who obviously hated each other and engaged in a deadly confrontation, but that was all. There was no reason why they hated each other, so that critical motive had to be created. As such, I sat down and began the more difficult task of constructing motives and jotting down a rough outline. That took only a few days and I then eagerly jumped into writing, which flowed rather quickly.

Having a friend who is a Federal Marshall, and who is a bit crazy, in a good sense, and very humorous, even in moments of facing danger, he became the basic foundation for Jack Goodwin, the protagonist. Naturally, fictional characters take on a life of their own once you begin writing, and the same is true here, as Jack Goodwin took on other traits from my imagination and I'm sure subconsciously from people I have met or read about in my life.

Anyhow, Jack Goodwin became an endearing and charismatic character, one that I truly enjoyed creating. I also loved the adventures he took me on. There's a magical mystery in writing fiction that I find fascinating and compelling, as it boggles the mind how characters become very independent during the creative process, who, more often than not, take me on detours off the outline's original path, thus necessitating revisions. And Jack's escapades and predicaments became a cascade of white-water rapids that eventually led to a perilous waterfall.

The introduction of Jack's love interest, Veronika Scaliakov, also led me down a sub path, yet her direction inevitably led to Auschwitz, which was an objective of mine. The Nazi death camps have always fascinated me, whether it was finding it difficult to imagine the horrors committed, or why and how so many could have heartlessly engaged in the killing spree, and I consciously made it a point to incorporate the Holocaust into the story line, which became a sub plot featuring Veronika as the heroine.

Although the main plot centers on the rivalry between Jack and his Nazi nemesis, Alois Richter, Veronika and her daughter Eleanor take on critical roles of their own. Therefore, the story has more than one plot and as the mysteries and suspense developed, it became a bit more complex and intriguing. And in those regards, I think that's why both men and women are finding My Nazi Nemesis appealing.

But don't take my word for it, feel free to read the first three chapters online and see for yourself at DVBooks.net. While there, you can enter to win a giveaway, play the quiz, and read brief character portraits of several key characters.

"There is nothing hidden that will not be revealed … "

On a brisk autumn day in 1686, eighteen-year-old Nella Oortman arrives in Amsterdam to begin a new life as the wife of illustrious merchant trader Johannes Brandt. But her new home, while splendorous, is not welcoming. Johannes is kind yet distant, always locked in his study or at his warehouse office — leaving Nella alone with his sister, the sharp-tongued and forbidding Marin.

But Nella's world changes when Johannes presents her with an extraordinary wedding gift: a cabinet-sized replica of their home. To furnish her gift, Nella engages the services of a miniaturist — an elusive and enigmatic artist whose tiny creations mirror their real-life counterparts in eerie and unexpected ways …

Johannes' gift helps Nella to pierce the closed world of the Brandt household. But as she uncovers its unusual secrets, she begins to understand — and fear — the escalating dangers that await them all. In this repressively pious society where gold is worshipped second only to God, to be different is a threat to the moral fabric of society, and not even a man as rich as Johannes is safe. Only one person seems to see the fate that awaits them. Is the miniaturist the key to their salvation … or the architect of their destruction?
