A Mysterious Review of Ed, Not Eddie by Max Everhart. An Eli Sharpe Mystery.

Review summary: There is so much misdirection in this murder mystery that even when all is said and done, nothing seems to be settled. An epilogue, which no doubt was written to help clarify things, does little to do so. Despite a few elements worth praising, this is a swing and a miss, to use an obvious baseball metaphor. Then there’s her feuding divorced parents, her spurned tutor, a disgraced coach turned evangelical minister, and the local sheriff, a bully whose son is one of Ed’s discarded boyfriends. Though local law enforcement is oddly unhelpful, Eli is not alone in his search for answers. The TV news team covering the protests is headed up a beautiful anchorwoman from Eli’s past. Is she on his side or not?

As usual, Eli is busy raising hackles in a town where there’s more than one mad dog in disguise.

It's the early 1950's. Joe McCarthy is campaigning to rid America of the Red Menace. Nate Heller is doing legwork for the senator, though the Chicago detective is disheartened by McCarthy's witch-hunting tactics. He's made friends with a young staffer, Bobby Kennedy, while trading barbs with a potential enemy, the attorney Roy Cohn, who rubs Heller the wrong way. Not the least of which for successfully prosecuting the so-called Atomic Bomb spies, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. When famous mystery writer Dashiell Hammett comes to Heller representing a group of showbiz and literary leftists who are engaged in a last minute attempt to save the Rosenbergs, Heller decides to take on the case.

Heller will have to play both sides to do this, and when McCarthy also tasks Heller to find out what the CIA has on him, Heller reluctantly agrees. His main lead is an army scientist working for the C.I.A. who admits to Heller that he's been having misgivings about the work he's doing and elliptically referring to the Cold War making World War II look like a tea party.

And then the scientist goes missing …

Telemystery: New Poster for Three Bedrooms, One Corpse, a Hallmark Mystery Movie

Hallmark Movies and Mysteries has released a new poster (right; click for slightly larger image) for it's upcoming made-for-television movie Three Bedrooms, One Corpse.

An adaptation of the third book in the Aurora Teagarden mystery series by Charlaine Harris, the movie stars Candace Cameron Bure, Marilu Henner and Yannick Bisson.

When Aurora pitches in to help her busy real estate mother, Aida, she quickly realizes she has again walked into a life or death situation. When a body is discovered at her first house showing and a second body is found in another house for sale, it becomes obvious that there is a very cool killer at large.
