The lives of the Barretts, a normal suburban New England family, are torn apart when fourteen-year-old Marjorie begins to display signs of acute schizophrenia.
To her parents' despair, the doctors are unable to stop Marjorie's bizarre outbursts and subsequent descent into madness. As their home devolves into a house of horrors, they reluctantly turn to a local Catholic priest for help. Father Wanderly suggests an exorcism; he believes the vulnerable teenager is the victim of demonic possession. He also contacts a production company that is eager to document the Barretts' plight for a reality television show. With John, Marjorie's father, out of work for more than a year and medical bills looming, the family reluctantly agrees to be filmed — never imagining that The Possession would become an instant hit. When events in the Barrett household explode in tragedy, the show and the incidents it captures become the stuff of urban legend.
Fifteen years later, a bestselling writer interviews Marjorie's younger sister, Merry. As she recalls those long-ago events from her childhood — she was just eight years old — painful memories and long-buried secrets that clash with the television broadcast and the Internet blogs begin to surface.

Former UK British army Major Digby Roberts is found dead, poisoned during a birthday celebration given for his adopted daughter Natasha at his prestigious luxury manor on the outskirts of Bangalow, a sleepy country village in northern New South Wales, Australia.

He knows that she is way ahead on solving this murder mystery; much to his annoyance. Former UK resident Lady Margaret, the proud owner of Lawler's Loft, the region's finest bed and breakfast guesthouse, is also considered to be the village busy body and part time amateur sleuth. Together they work well.

Ophelia has always considered her psychic abilities an imposition, except for those times she's been able to put her paranormal talents to good use — like when a friend asks her to help find a missing teenager. Unfortunately it means she and Abby, her kindly, canny sorceress granny, will be taking to the road to pursue the vanished girl in the wilds of Minnesota.
The signs are pointing toward the secluded new age research facility of Jason and Juliet Finch, who live with their troubled — and possibly matricidal — thirteen-year-old niece. And a bizarre local murder that follows their arrival — plus the appearance of a mysterious Native American shaman — only emphasize the urgency of Ophelia and Abby's hunt, drawing them into a web of dark secrets and to the last place they'd ever wish to be: a cottage in the woods where true evil quite possibly resides.

Ottawa. Royal Canadian Mounted Police inspector Liz Forsyth is assigned to the murder of a young Chechen woman, killed by an unseen gunman at the gates of the Russian Embassy in Ottawa. No one knows who would want to kill her, except, perhaps, the Russians.
Separated by continents and responsibilities to their respective departments, Forsyth and Hay (and their loyal sergeants Ouellette and Wilkins) doggedly work their cases while still feeling the pull of their recent partnership at the Canadian High Commission in London. As Forsyth chases her case further into the complicated world of Russian and Chechen relations, Hay is at a standstill — until the murderer resurfaces.

Foreign Affairs by Stuart Woods, a Stone Barrington Mystery (35th in series)
Publisher: Putnam
When he's apprised at the last minute of a mandatory meeting abroad, Stone Barrington rushes off to Europe for a whirlwind tour of business and, of course, pleasure. But from the start the trip seems to be cursed, plagued by suspicious "accidents" and unfortunate events, and some of Stone's plans go up in flames — literally.
Not a believer in coincidence, Stone sets out to learn the true source of his curious misfortune and finds that what appeared to be bad luck may, in fact, have been a warning. From the chic streets of Paris to Italy's spectacular Amalfi Coast, Stone is pursued from all sides … but when the tables turn, the hunted may become the hunter …
DS Sean Stone (Reece Shearsmith) possesses an uncanny knack for getting inside the minds of serial killers. His ability makes him a brilliant detective, but he's hindered by a personality disorder that rubs colleagues the wrong way. Following a workplace blunder, Stone is demoted from the homicide division to the Missing Persons Bureau, where he's forced to team up with his polar opposite: warm, empathetic analyst Ruth Hattersley (Alex Kingston).
The mismatched partners clash from the start, but Stone dives headfirst into the bureau's database to spot signs of serial killers behind some cases. Did the lonely teenage girl who posted on a suicide message board kill herself? Why did a lawyer and devoted family man disappear? To find them, Stone will have to harness the power of Hattersley's talents and reckon with his own personality flaws before they destroy his career.
Based on the world of Camilla Läckberg's novels, Erica Falck is a successful crime writer and mother of three. She's moved with her husband and children from the city to her hometown of Fjällbacka, a fishing village on a picturesque island off the coast of Sweden. Her return seems idyllic, but simmering beneath the village's surface lie hidden secrets, twisted desires and deceit waiting to erupt into the ultimate sin — murder.
THE SEA GIVES, THE SEA TAKES When Erica finds photographer Stigge murdered in his studio, she can't help but take interest in the investigation. She learns that her mother-in-law, Kristina, was one among many in the neighborhood whom Stigge had blackmailed. With this news, Erica begins to dig even deeper into his past.
THE COAST RIDER The coast guard finds two amateur divers dead after a storm and then discovers that two more are missing. Erica investigates something that could link all of the victims together: the divers had salvaged a shipwreck from the 1820s, where they found intact bottles of wine worth millions at auction.
THE QUEEN OF LIGHT On a crystal clear, starry winter night a young woman dressed in a traditional Lucia gown is seen running across the ice. When she reaches an unfrozen channel, she drops her crown of candles in the snow and throws herself into the dark waters. As Erica investigates the case, she discovers the missing Lucia, a secret love affair and a man seeking revenge.
THE HIDDEN CHILD A few months after Erica's parents are killed in a violent car crash, a man arrives on her doorstep claiming to be her brother. Unconvinced, she asks him to leave. But when he's found murdered a few days later, she begins looking through her mother's things and discovers a long hidden secret that someone is very determined to keep secret.
THE EYES OF THE BEHOLDER A well-to-do businessman is murdered and Erica's sister was the last person to see him alive. Things get even more complex when Anna confesses that she spent the night with him. As the questions multiply and grow, it's discovered that Anna's common-law husband knew of the affair.
FRIENDS FOR LIFE When looking for the subject of her next book, her agent suggests basing it on an event from Erica's own life. Looking back to her teenage years, she recalls the disappearance of her classmate, Peter. As she begins digging into the past, she sets off a chain of events that brings the mystery closer to home.

We are delighted to welcome author Richard Godwin to Omnimystery News today.
Richard's new crime novel is Wrong Crowd (Down & Out Books; October 2015 trade paperback and ebook formats) and we recently had a chance to spend some time talking about it with him.
— ♦ —
Omnimystery News: Why do you choose to write stand-alones over novels with recurring characters?
Photo provided courtesy of Richard Godwin
Richard Godwin: I believe that the series novel, while represented by many fine authors, falls into the cookie cutter too easily, the reader always knows the protagonist will survive.
It is a case of realism versus soap opera.
OMN: How true are you to the settings in your books?
RG: I am always true to location. Setting is the key to so much drama and plot.
OMN: How did Wrong Crowd come to be titled?
RG: I chose it and it relates sharply. Wrong Crowd is about an art thief who meets a beautiful mysterious woman on holiday and literally falls into the wrong crowd, and he will do anything to hold onto Maxine, even if that means going back to his bad old ways.
OMN: Have any specific authors influenced how and what you write today?
RG: Influences are hard to determine, I'll list some favorites. Dickens, Dostoyevsky, Greene, Burke, among others.
OMN: When selecting a book today to read for pleasure, what do you look for?
RG: Style.
OMN: Create a Top 5 list for us on any topic.
RG: Top 5 favorite books:
• King Lear; • Crime and Punishment; • Great Expectations; • Brighton Rock; and • No Country For Old Men.
OMN: What's next for you?
RG: My novel Disembodied is about a publisher who is disillusioned with the digital revolution, and whose wife is suffering from body dysmorphia, is out next year. Also my sequel to Apostle Rising is being published, in which we see the serial killer who crucifies politicians, taking on his enemies, and causing havoc in the political world.

Richard Godwin was born in London and obtained a BA and MA in English and American Literature from King's College London, where he also lectured.
A sultry novel in which an art thief finds himself out of his depth in a criminal maelstrom when he meets a beautiful woman with no past.
When Claude meets Maxine in the Caribbean he falls for her. He does not expect he will start an affair with her back in London, then again he does not expect to have to call on the help of his old mate Spike, nor that will they become embroiled with Russian gangsters Vladimir and Grigory.
But then Claude will do anything to hold onto Maxine.
Peopled with thieves, hustlers, gangsters, gun runners and pimps, Wrong Crowd is a slick and action-packed ride into London's low-life. East End villains and the Russian Mafia collide in a fast-paced novel of deceit and criminal obsession that sparkles as it speeds towards its astonishing conclusion.
