Ally Thompson's life is perfect. Calm, quiet, some might even say boring. The sole survivor of a tragic accident, she's not the adventurous type — something she's decided to change.

A murder and a detective in disguise shatter Ally's first attempt at "fun." Detective Greg Marsing is everything Ally knows better than to want. The gun-totting, tattooed scumbags trying to kill her are almost a welcome distraction from her pointless attraction.

A contract on Ally has every lowlife for miles gunning for her. Sparks fly while she and her unlikely hero scramble to unravel clues. As the deadly game escalates, Greg has to decide if self-preservation rates higher than a love worth dying for.

Life in Tucson can be odd for a cop. With bodies five and six from a serial killer rolling into the morgue, Tucson Detective Gil Calavanti has just another annoyance on his hands. He's got more important things to do, like finding the people who arranged to kill him but ended up putting a bullet into his wife's head instead. Former-cop and friend Tyler Henry, and Tyler's lover, Andrea Wyatt, join Gil and they manage to capture the serial killer but they don't bother to tell anyone about it. At least not right away. Assassins come looking to kill their captive, but one of them gets a bit strange as he tries to work out self-image issues in the middle of the hit. Gil takes to wearing superhero outfits to step outside his own life and take on the character and power of the hero, but he's okay. Just ask him. And there's the nagging problem of the death of a one-year-old ghost-child who may have never even existed.

Gil's left to figure out how to bring all this to a point that proves who has killed his wife. Either that, or damn the idea of proof. Gil's got guns.

Being ditched at the altar is the least of Lizzie Mancini's problems. Sitting in a Caribbean jail cell accused of murdering her "pretend" husband, however, is at the top of the list.

After her real groom jilts her, Lizzie decides to go solo on their Belize honeymoon and meets handsome Michael Garcia, who is nursing his own heartache. To avoid the bleakness of dining and sightseeing alone, as well as questions from nosy, if well-meaning, fellow guests at the couples-only resort, the two agree to pose as newlyweds for the week — no strings (or sex) attached.

The plan runs smoothly until Lizzie enjoys the attentions of the local scuba instructor and Michael's body washes ashore. Suddenly the "Mrs." is mistakenly ID'd as suspect numero uno. With the Polizia Nationale ready to close the case and cook her goose, Lizzie will have to solve the crime herself.

When an elderly World War II veteran shows up unannounced at Brodie Security begging for protection, the staff thinks he's just a paranoid old man. He offers up a story connected to the war and to Chinese Triads operating in present-day Tokyo, insisting that he and his few surviving army buddies are in danger.

Fresh off his involvement in solving San Francisco's Japantown murders, antiques dealer Jim Brodie had returned to Tokyo for some R&R, and to hunt down a rare ink painting by the legendary Japanese Zen master Sengai for one of his clients — not to take on another case with his late father's P.I. firm. But out of respect for the old soldier, Brodie agrees to provide a security detail, thinking it'll be an easy job and end when the man comes to his senses.

Instead, an unexpected, brutal murder rocks Brodie and his crew, sending them deep into the realm of the Triads, Chinese spies, kendo warriors, and an elusive group of killers whose treachery spans centuries — and who will stop at nothing to complete their mission.
