Family history was never supposed to be like this …

When American genealogist Jefferson Tayte accepted his latest assignment he had no idea it might kill him. But while murder was never part of the curriculum he is kidding himself if he thinks he can walk away from this one.

Why can't I trace them? What happened to them?

Driven by the irony of being a genealogist who doesn't know who his own parents are, Tayte soon finds that the assignment shares a stark similarity to his own struggle. Someone has gone to great lengths to erase an entire family bloodline from recorded history and he's not going home until he's found out why. After all, if he's not good enough to find this family, how can he ever expect to be good enough to someday find his own?

Set in Cornwall, England, past and present, Tayte's research centres around the tragic life of a young Cornish girl, a writing box, and the discovery of a dark family secret that he believes will lead him to the family he is looking for. Trouble is, someone else is looking for the same answers and they will stop at nothing to find them.

Review: My Sister's Grave by Robert Dugoni

Mysterious Reviews: Reviews of New Mysteries, Novels of Suspense, and Thrillers

A Mysterious Review of My Sister's Grave by Robert Dugoni. A Legal Thriller.

Review summary: The overall theme here is that the law, and the process of law, isn't nearly as black and white as most would like to believe, with a vast gray area in the middle open to interpretation and manipulation. A superb whodunit start to finish, this legal thriller is highly recommended. (Click here for text of full review.)

It is high time to tell the truth. Time for justice … How she was murdered and why she haunts me. It is not only Elma's story, it's mine.

On the bustling docks of the Hudson River, Catherine Ring waits with her husband and children for the ship carrying her cousin, Elma Sands. Their Greenwich Street boardinghouse becomes a haven for Elma, who has at last escaped the stifling confines of her small hometown and the shameful circumstances of her birth. But in the summer of 1799, Manhattan remains a teeming cesspool of stagnant swamps and polluted rivers. The city is desperate for clean water as fires wreak devastation and the death toll from yellow fever surges.

Political tensions are rising, too. It's an election year, and Alexander Hamilton is hungry for power. So is his rival, Aaron Burr, who has announced the formation of the Manhattan Water Company. But their private struggle becomes very public when the body of Elma Sands is found at the bottom of a city well built by Burr's company.

Resolved to see justice done, Catherine becomes both witness and avenger. She soon finds, however, that the shocking truth behind this trial has nothing to do with guilt or innocence.

Longmire: Season Three on DVDLongmire: Season Three on Amazon Instant VODLongmire: Season Three on iTunes

Absaroka County (Wyoming) Sheriff Walt Longmire is back for the third season of the formerly A&E, now Netflix drama Longmire. In this gripping two-disc, 10-episode set, characters must test their courage and face challenges that will ultimately define them.

Last season, Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor) and his deputies each braved a storm and did it nobly. But for every storm, there is an aftermath. After winning his heated re-election as Absaroka County sheriff against his ambitious deputy Branch Connally (Bailey Chase), Longmire faces a stampede of problems both personal and professional. Branch is mysteriously shot on "the Rez" by the White Warrior spirit of a dead man, while Longmire's loyal friend Henry Standing Bear (Lou Diamond Phillips), is arrested in connection to the murder of Longmire's wife's killer. Longmire's daughter, Cady (Cassidy Freeman), decides to take up Henry's case and fight in court to clear Henry's name. Meanwhile, his deputy Vic Moretti (Katee Sackhoff) sees the return of a stalker from her Philadelphia past. Longmire must navigate these taxing situations as he butts heads with tribal police, big money connections and longstanding enemies.

This series is based on the "Walt Longmire" mystery novels written by Craig Johnson.

The third season DVD is scheduled for release on March 3rd, 2015. It is already available to download on Amazon Instant and iTunes.

When A&E abruptly canceled the series after this third season, the outcome of the cliffhanger ending was in doubt. Fortunately, Netflix announced last Fall that it would produce and stream a fourth season. No date was provided, but it is expected to be available sometime this year.
