A YA Novel of Suspense
Scholastic Press

Gemma, 16, is on layover at Bangkok Airport, en route with her parents to a vacation in Vietnam. She steps away for just a second, to get a cup of coffee. Ty — rugged, tan, too old, oddly familiar — pays for Gemma's drink. And drugs it. They talk. Their hands touch. And before Gemma knows what's happening, Ty takes her. Steals her away.

The unknowing object of a long obsession, Gemma has been kidnapped by her stalker and brought to the desolate Australian Outback.

This is her gripping story of survival, of how she has to come to terms with her living nightmare — or die trying to fight it.

The spirit is willing …

As Tara and Flynn are closing in on Dee Dee Broyles' killer, a deadly new ghost begins to threaten them. It's just another day in Tara's lunatic life …

All during the day at school, Tara kept picturing the moment when she and Nate would find DeeDee's grave. Even the classes she had with Flynn, who made everything fun, never seemed to end. By the time the last bell rang, she was fired up like a roman candle on the Fourth of July. She bolted from her seat, made a quick stop at her locker, and slipped out a side door instead of taking the front, knowing full well she was going to miss seeing Flynn. She didn't have time to delay or explain, and she had a feeling he wouldn't be all that thrilled in what she was doing. He was pretty cool about her psychic stuff, but digging for bodies fell way out of the realm of normal — even for her.

Howard Books

A secret that must never be revealed … An evil never meant to be repeated …

Seventy years ago, the greatest crime against humanity was committed. Today it's only a heartbeat away from happening again.

In Paraguay, an elderly businessman kills himself. In Berlin, a neo-Nazi is gunned down in the street.

Trying to connect the murders, intelligence agent Joe Volkmann, aided by a beautiful young German journalist, travels to Paraguay and discovers a clue — the charred remains of an old black-and-white photograph in a remote jungle house. A photograph that holds the first key to an extraordinary secret — and a plot to create the Fourth Reich.

Volkmann soon uncovers that a string of bizarre killings around the world are all linked by a single purpose. And he also discovers that the journalist he trusted, Erica Kranz, is somehow linked to the plan.

Haunted by the ghosts of the past, and desperate to unearth an extraordinary secret, Volkmann and Kranz are plunged into a dangerous world of terrorism, fanaticism, and deception as they stare true evil in the face.

Bone Deep by Randy Wayne White

[15]: Bone Deep
Randy Wayne White
— Doc Ford (21st)

When a Crow Indian acquaintance of Tomlinson's asks him to help recover a relic stolen from his tribe, Doc Ford is happy to tag along — but neither Doc nor Tomlinson realize what they've let themselves in for. Their search takes them to the part of Central Florida known as Bone Valley, famous primarily for two things: a ruthless subculture of black-marketers who trade in illegal artifacts and fossils, and a multibillion-dollar phosphate industry whose strip mines compromise the very ground they walk on.

Neither enterprise tolerates nosy outsiders. For each, public exposure equals big financial losses — and in a region built on a million-year accumulation of bones, there is no shortage of spots in which to hide a corpse. Or two.

Winners of the 2014 Pinckley Prizes Announced

Mystery, Suspense and Thriller Book Awards

Laura Lippman and Gwen Florio are the recipients of the inaugural Pinckley Prizes for Crime Fiction, named to honor the memory of Diana Pinckley, longtime crime fiction columnist for The New Orleans Times-Picayune. The prizes will be presented March 22nd, 2014, at the 28th annual Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival. The presentation will take place at the historic Beauregard-Keyes House at 5 PM. The Prizes are presented by the Women's National Book Association of New Orleans, of which Diana Pinckley was a founding member.

Laura Lippman was selected as the first Pinckley Prize winner for her Distinguished Body of Work. In a statment from the awards committee, "Laura Lippman is one of those writers whose dedication to her home town of Baltimore has captivated American readers. She has created an enduring sleuth in Tess Monaghan, a complex character dealing with the issues that every contemporary woman confronts. And more than that, in her stand-alone works, Lippman has transcended the limits and challenges of genre to become a distinguished writer of social realism. All that, and she has a wicked sense of humor!"

Montana resident Gwen Florio won the Pinckley Prize for a Debut Novel, for her first book, Montana, published by Permanent Press. "Out of a field of excellent debut crime novels, we picked Montana because we completely fell in love with the main character. It's often difficult to pinpoint why someone is lovable. Suffice to say that Gwen Florio's protagonist Lola fully lives on the page, and what is even more compelling about this brave, irascible character is that she continues to live after the book is closed. She's fearless, flawed, intelligent, reckless, and funny, but most of all, she is defined by loyalty to her friend and a relentless pursuit of her killer."

The casino owner wants a cash cow, his partner is laundering money, and Russian mobsters connected to the silent partner want to push what's left of the Pittsburgh mob out of the picture altogether.

This is more than the town is equipped to handle, though it is not without resources of its own, notably two native sons — police detective Ben "Doc" Dougherty, and his cousin, Chicago private investigator Nick Forte — who refuse to allow Penns River to become collateral damage.

Despite his powerful father-in-law's warnings, Sebastian plunges deep into the mystery of the “Lost Dauphin,” the boy prince who disappeared in the darkest days of the French Revolution, and soon finds himself at lethal odds with the Dauphin's sister — the imperious, ruthless daughter of Marie Antoinette — who is determined to retake the French crown at any cost.
