An Abigail Timberlake, Den of Antiquity Mystery (3rd in series)
Publisher: HarperCollins

Every shroud has a silver lining …

Abigail Timberlake, owner of the Den of Antiquity, has never been happier. She is about to marry the man of her dreams AND has just outbid all other Charlotte, North Carolina, antique dealers for an exquisite English tea service. Then Mama (who is running off to be a nun) stops by to deliver an early wedding present, and it rains on Abby's parade. The one-of-a-kind tea service Abby paid big bucks for has a twin. A frazzled Abby finds more trouble on her doorstep — literally — when a local auctioneer mysteriously collapses outside her shop and a press clipping of her engagement announcement turns up in the wallet of a dead man. (Obviously she won't be getting a wedding present from him.)

Tracing the deceased to a small town in the Pennsylvania Dutch country, Abby heads above the Mason-Dixon Line to search for clues to the origins of faux tea services. Accompanied by a trio of eccentric dealers and her beloved but stressed-out cat, she longs for her Southern homeland as she confronts a menagerie of dubious characters. Digging for answers, Abby realizes that she might just be digging her own grave in — horrors! — Yankeeland.

The Cat, The Devil, and Lee Fontana by Shirley Rousseau and Pat J. J. Murphy

The Cat, The Devil, and Lee Fontana
Shirley Rousseau and Pat J. J. Murphy

To the devil, the span of human life is as brief as spit on the wind. But the challenge of playing with flawed humans, like a cat toying with a mouse, is endlessly amusing. However, if the devil loses a wager, he will harass a person's descendants until he eventually gets his due. Which is why he is tormenting Lee Fontana.

The night before Lee is paroled, Satan terrifies and tempts the thief with the promise of one more successful robbery. But Lee has a secret ally looking out for him. The prison cat, a ghost, will tail the ex-con on his dangerous mission — an adventure that moves across the country and spins far beyond our present world into the vast realms of afterlife, a story in which ghostly Misto revels in his added ethereal powers and expanded freedom.

Telemystery: MTV Orders To Series Eye Candy, based on the R. L. Stine Thriller

Eye Candy (MTV)

MTV — not a network we usually associated with telemystery shows — has ordered to series Eye Candy, based on a suspense thriller of the same title by R. L. Stine.

The series stars Victoria Justice as Lindy Sampson, a tech wizard who suspects that one of her online suitors may be a cyber-stalker. (See more of the book's synopsis, below.) When things take a deadly turn, she teams up with the city's cyber-crime unit to catch a serial killer.

Viewers won't get to see the pilot that was produced, and upon which the cable network ordered the series; that will be largely recast (though Justice remains) and reshot.

A Psychlogical Thriller
Publisher: Atria Books

When Anna, a chef by profession, discovers she's pregnant, she prepares to leave dreary London behind and move to idyllic Provence, France, with her husband, Tobias, and her lovable baby-to-be. But she's suddenly forced to reevaluate her dreams when their baby is born less than perfect. Little do Anna and Tobias know that the change in plans sparked by Freya's birth is the beginning of an incredible journey of the heart. Along the way, they discover that there truly is no such thing as a mouseproof kitchen, and though life sometimes gets a little messy, it's the messy bits that give it meaning.

The couple and their new daughter end up in a vermin-infested farmhouse in a remote town in France — far from the mansion in Provence they'd originally imagined. Their rickety home is falling down around them, the village is involved in a decades-old trauma, and even the charms of the region's lavender fields and a budding romance between two of their young neighbors can't distract from the fact that Freya's hospital stays are becoming frighteningly frequent. Anna must draw on reserves of strength she never knew she had just to keep going from day to day. But will it be enough to keep her family together — and her daughter safe?

Blood of the Lamb by Michael Lister
A John Jordan Mystery
Publisher: Pulpwood Press
Price: $0.99 (as of 02/11/14 01:00 PM ET)

Florida prison chaplain John Jordan's search for the peace that has so long eluded him is interrupted by an unimaginable murder. Attempting to be a good man in a very bad place while also maintaining his shaky sobriety, John investigates the murder of the seven year-old adopted daughter of ex-con turned televangelist, Bobby Earl Caldwell, a murder committed in John's own locked office when Bobby Earl conducts a service in the Potter Correctional Institution chapel.

This unspeakable act, and the investigation that follows, will force John to confront his own fears and beliefs, causing this man of mercy to thirst for justice. Torn between the seemingly conflicting roles he's asked to assume — cop and cleric — John must struggle to figure out his identity as well as that of the killer's, but his past continues to haunt him in the form of troubling thoughts of failure and the resurfacing of his ex-wife, Susan.

Putting aside his distrust of the slick televangelist and his seductive wife, John must ignore intimidation and resist manipulation to find a killer among some very unusual suspects — including two murderers, a child molester, a teacher with something to hide, and Bobby Earl Caldwell himself whose very act of exposing his daughter to such risk causes John to suspect him from the very beginning.

Amid private crises and the torturous experiences of a thoughtful, sensitive man working in such a pitiless place, nothing short of death will end John's search for the person who killed little Nicole Caldwell. Uncovering the guilt, restoring the balance, John seeks pardon from the self-inflicted life sentence he's serving and exoneration from the burden of regret he bears.
