Telemystery: Sherlock Season 3 Premieres January 19th, 2014

Telemystery Prime Time Crime: Mystery and Suspense on Television

PBS has announced that Sherlock Season 3 will premiere on January 19th, 2014 at 10 PM ET/PT.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman return as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson in three new 90-minute episodes of the contemporary reinvention of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle classic, created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss.

As in previous seasons, titles for the three episodes are pegged to a classic Sherlock Holmes title by Arthur Conan Doyle — delightfully, wittily, and briskly updated, of course.

"The Empty Hearse" – Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 10 PM ET/PT;
"The Sign of Three" – Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 10 PM ET/PT; and
"His Last Vow" – Sunday, February 2, 2014 at 10 PM ET/PT.

Separately, the network announced that the second season of The Bletchley Circle would premieres on Sunday, April 13th, 2014. This series follows four ordinary women with an extraordinary ability to break codes, a skill honed during World War II when they worked undercover at Bletchley Park, site of the United Kingdom's main decryption establishment. The women use their code-breaking skills to solve crimes in post-war London.

The Litter of the Law
Rita Mae Brown
Series: Mrs. Murphy (22nd)

Autumn has descended and crops are being harvested all over Crozet, Virginia, ideal conditions for a scenic drive for Harry and husband Fair. Bucolic views are all well and good, but Harry's nose for trouble leads her straight to a cornfield's macabre scarecrow — an all too real murder victim that frightens all but the noisy crows.

This accountant's gruesome death is only the first of many disturbing events in this normally pastoral corner of the world. While Harry tends her beloved grapes and sunflowers, a killer edges closer — as does Harry's protective menagerie of animals.

Halloween's approach brings with it bona fide terror and a beloved local tradition that threatens to become fatal. Rooting out the guilty in the treacherous center of a lucrative conspiracy requires Harry's farmer's wisdom — along with the quick wits and extraordinary senses of Sneaky Pie, Pewter, and Tucker. A vicious murderer may know the lay of the land far better than Harry does, but that's about to change. It's up to her vigilant four-footed companions to make sure that the unearthing of this plot is not Harry's last act.

Yesterday crime novelist Lawrence Block made a startling announcement on his website: Bernie Rhodenbarr is back in another adventure! Here's what he had to say about it …

The book's title is The Burglar Who Counted the Spoons, and it's the eleventh volume about Mrs. Rhodenbarr's son Bernie."

Block is self-publishing the title, which will be available on December 25th, 2013. It can be pre-ordered from Amazon. More details, below.

A Conversation with Novelist Marc A. DiGiacomo

Omnimystery News: Author Interview with Marc A. DiGiacomo
with Marc A. DiGiacomo

We are delighted to welcome back novelist Marc A. DiGiacomo to Omnimystery News.

Marc first visited with us earlier this year after his new mystery In a Small Town (Marc A. DiGiacomo, October 2012 trade paperback and ebook formats) was published. We are pleased to report that since that time Marc was honored with Best Thriller Award at the 2013 Orangeberry Book Expo Hall of Fame.

We recently caught up with Marc to talk about the award.

Omnimystery News: Congratulations on winning a Best Thriller Award! Walk us through the whole process.

Marc A. DiGiacomo

Marc A. DiGiacomo: In A Small Town, was first nominated for the Best Thriller Award at the 2013 Orangeberry Book Expo Hall of Fame. It was selected out of hundreds of books that toured with Orangeberry throughout the year.

I was notified in August 2013 that I was a finalist. Five books were chosen from each genre and the book that received the most votes won the award. My book was up against two best selling authors out of the UK, so I was the underdog within the group. Two thousand, seven hundred votes later, In A Small Town, received sixty percent of those votes to win.

OMN: How did the award affect sales of the book?

MAD: Sales of my Kindle version for Amazon have picked up tremendously since winning. Amazon lowered my price to less than a buck, so it has been exploding through the charts, even making it to #12 on the Amazon best seller list for Crime Thrillers in August 2013.

OMN: How will winning this award change the marketing of the book?

MAD: Every author, whether traditionally or self-published, knows how difficult it is to get any marketing from their publisher. It really comes down to an author's individual effort on getting his/her work out there for it to be discovered by readers. I have re-released In A Small Town with a new cover that includes my award seal on the front. I am hoping this new cover attracts even more buzz about the book.

OMN: Has this award changed how you see yourself as an author?

MAD: I feel validated as an author. Even though self-publishing is becoming more mainstream, there is still a stigma in the literary community regarding self-published books. Any positive recognition for your work is welcomed and it helps to bolster your credibility as a writer.

OMN: What's next for you?

MAD: I am finishing up the sequel to In A Small Town and hope to have it released by the end of 2013. I also have a few other small projects in the process of being published. You can check out my website for further information.

Before the Jersey Shore ever even heard of Snookie, the beaches in New Jersey were known for warm sand, lively boardwalks, and the promise of carefree summer days. This season the small scenic town of Ocean Point, New Jersey, is not nearly as carefree as tourists would hope. The discovery of the body of a young woman is the first in a string of seemingly random and senseless murders, murders connected only by a warning from the same boardwalk fortune-teller.

It's a crisis that puts local detective Mitch Burns on edge, and his job in jeopardy. It's up to him to solve the crimes and protect the livelihood of the town, a livelihood that relies almost entirely on tourists. With the help of newly hired local reporter Elise Jenkins, the two step out to discover who the killer is, before another body is found.
