Telemystery: An Amish Murder, a Lifetime Telemovie, Premieres Sunday January 6th

Tomorrow, Sunday January 6th at 9 PM (ET/PT), Lifetime airs An Amish Murder, a made-for-television adaptation of the first mystery in the "Kate Burkholder" series by Linda Castillo. (More about the book, below.)

The peaceful Amish farming community of Painter's Mill, Ohio, is shattered when a series of brutal murders leaves the town with a sense of frailty and loss of innocence. Among the most affected by the tragedy was Kate Burkholder (Neve Campbell), a young girl who survived the terror and, as a result, left the Amish life behind. Fifteen years later, Kate returns to Painter's Mill as its Chief of Police. Certain she's come to terms with her past, Kate's renewed life in her hometown is shattered when a murder investigation triggers deep-seated emotions from her childhood and exposes a dark secret that could destroy her.

Depending on ratings, of course, but this telemovie could also serve as the pilot for a potential weekly series based on the character. Castillo has written four books in the series (to date), giving the screenwriters plenty of material from which to draw upon.

It's probably better if you're already a fan of Liam Neeson to enjoy this action thriller. The plot has numerous holes, rarely makes sense, and the screenplay seems to exist merely as a means of getting Neeson's character from one scene to the next with a minimum of fuss and effort … and logic.

Every month Amazon publishes a list of 100 Kindle books priced $3.99 or less. We thought we'd take that idea and improve on it, publishing a list of 100 Kindle mystery books priced $2.99 or less and updating it every week!

Here is our general criteria for selecting titles to include: books from major or specialty publishers of crime fiction and those written by authors familiar to us. There are far more than 100 to choose from, so we use our best judgment to narrow it down.

And just a reminder … as we add new titles, older ones are removed from the list. These books aren't likely to be repeated, so we encourage you to check in frequently!

Just a couple of notes before we get started …

• With the first of the month occurring during this past week, Amazon has updated its own monthly list. We haven't duplicated any of the featured mystery, suspense and thriller titles on our weekly list.

• Poisoned Pen Press has been busy adjusting prices on many of their titles over this past week or so. We think we've caught all the changes but just in case, it's always worthwhile checking out their list of mystery books.

• Two Sidney Sheldon books are included on our list, both of which are currently pre-order (but will be available this coming Tuesday for download).
