Every month Amazon publishes a list of 100 Kindle books priced $3.99 or less. We thought we'd take that idea and improve on it, publishing a list of 100 Kindle mystery books priced $2.99 or less and updating it every week!

Here is our general criteria for selecting titles to include: books from major or specialty publishers of crime fiction and those written by authors familiar to us. There are far more than 100 to choose from, so we use our best judgment to narrow it down.

And just a reminder … as we add new titles, older ones are removed from the list. These books aren't likely to be repeated, so we encourage you to check in frequently!

Patrick Lee's Thriller The Breach Optioned for Film

Di Bonaventura Pictures has optioned the sci-fi thriller The Breach by Patrick Lee. Justin Rhodes will write the adapted screenplay. Variety reports, however, that the storyline is expected to deviate somewhat from that of the book, though no specific plot points are mentioned.

Published in December 2009, The Breach is the first in a trilogy of high-tech adventure series by Lee. The others are Ghost Country (December 2010) and Deep Sky (December 2011).

New Trailer for Killing Them Softly

A new theatrical trailer for Killing Them Softly has been released by the studio (embedded below).

Adapted from George V. Higgins's 1974 crime novel Cogan's Trade, the film follows professional enforcer Jackie Cogan (Brad Pitt), who investigates a heist that occurs during a high stakes, mob-protected, poker game.

Directed by Andrew Dominik from his own adapted screenplay, Killing Them Softly opens in theaters November 30th, 2012.

Telemystery: SyFy Renews Haven for a 4th Season

SyFy has renewed Haven for a fourth season.

"We couldn't be happier to see the story of Audrey Parker and the creepy, quirky town of Haven continue next year, said Mark Stern, president original content, SyFy. Based on the Stephen King novella The Colorado Kid, Haven stars Emily Rose as FBI Special Agent Audrey Parker, who arrives in the small town of Haven, Maine on a routine murder investigation. But her natural curiosity lands her in the epicenter of activity in this curious enclave, which turns out to be a longtime refuge for people that are affected by a range of supernatural afflictions.
