CrimeFest 2012: Official Program, Award Nominees

CrimeFest 2012

CrimeFest 2012 is less than a month away, and the organizers have released a final program for the event. Get plenty of rest beforehand as there is a lot to see and do!

There's far too much to make note of here, but you can see all the details on the official program. (Our friends in the UK spell it "programme".) Information on how to get to the event, where to stay, and things to see and do before and afterwards can be found on the event's website.

There will be awards news as well. On Friday night, the Crime Writers' Association will announce the shortlist for this year's Dagger Awards. Cloud Crash by Phil Edwards

Cloud Crash by Phil Edwards
Publisher: Harrison-Mills Media

About Cloud Crash (from the publisher): A mad bomber crosses the country with nothing to lose and orders to kill. He won't stop until the "cloud computing" that powers the internet is destroyed. But he's not acting alone — he's part of a conspiracy that reaches to the highest levels of power.

His only obstacle? A team of professionals with serious flaws: a corporate investigator who's too brash to stay out of trouble, a hermit-like blogger with crippling paranoia, and a beautiful public relations expert with her own fair share of secrets. They'll have to work together to discover the true source of the attacks — before it's too late.

Along the way, they'll come in contact with modern technology's greatest risks. The chase takes them from Silicon Valley to New York City, with stops at Napa and Area 51 in between. They'll have to move quickly — there's only one chance to keep the cloud from crashing.

Don't Cry for Me by William Campbell Gault

Don't Cry for Me by William Campbell Gault
Publisher: Prologue Books

About Don't Cry for Me (from the publisher): He was a heel … a blue-blood gone bad, a low-brow with class, a bum with an income. He liked low-slung cars and top-heavy girls, and he took his pleasure where he found it. He was the consort of bookies, dope-peddlers, crooks; the buddy of has-beens, tough guys, and junkies. He dreamed the big dream, but played it small … free wheeling it down hill all the way, with a crack-up — and murder — at the bottom. Too many slow horses, too many fast women, and finally, one loaded cigarette; and after that … trouble: a woman who wouldn’t stay, a dead man’s face that wouldn’t go away, and an alibi that wouldn’t stick …

MystereBooks: This Week's Update of Kindle Books Priced $2.99 or Less (120428)

MystereBooks: Mystery, Suspense, and Thriller eBooks

Every month Amazon publishes a list of 100 Kindle books priced $3.99 or less. We thought we'd take that idea and improve on it, publishing a list of 100 Kindle mystery books priced $2.99 or less and updating it every week!

Here is our general criteria for selecting titles to include: books from major or specialty publishers of crime fiction and those written by authors familiar to us. There are far more than 100 to choose from, so we use our best judgment to narrow it down.

Shown below are some of the new titles we added today.

And … as a reminder, these are the last few days for Poisoned Pen Press's April selection of 99 cent mystery ebooks.

Also … check out this selection of titles from Oceanview Publishing, several of which are free. (The free titles seem to change frequently so this link includes all titles priced up to $2.99, sorted by price.)

This is the second mystery (of ten to date) in this series featuring the Oakland (CA) private investigator.

About Take a Number (from the publisher): In Alameda County, east of San Francisco, the all-American pastimes of adultery, divorce, and mindless violence prosper — and Petty Officer First Class Sam Raynor, USN, fits right in. PI Jeri Howard is working for Raynor's battered wife, who wants not only a divorce but half of everything Raynor's got. It turns out Raynor's hidden some big bucks from Uncle Sam.

And that's not all he's hidden. Barely concealed behind his blond and muscled good looks is a vicious psychopath, whose wife-battering episodes are only the tip of an ugly iceberg. It seems Petty Officer Raynor's been getting away with murder … or close to it. And now that Jeri is on his trail, can murder be far behind?
