Michael Lister is the author of two mystery series, both set in Florida. This is his first stand-alone thriller.

About Double Exposure (from the publisher): One fateful fall evening, as the sun sinks and the darkness expands, wildlife photographer Remington James ventures deep into the river swamp to try out some new equipment and check his camera traps.

While checking his camera traps, scanning the eerie images of overexposed deer and bats and foxes, Remington comes across the most haunting images of his life — the frame-by-frame capture of a shocking crime. By exposing the criminal, Remington has exposed himself to danger, even possible extinction. Hunted like an animal by the predator and his psychotic friends, Remington must do two things: make it through the night and make it to the river — and the odds of doing either are slim to none.

Mark Harmon Stars as Lucas Davenport in Certain Prey, This Sunday on USA

Certain Prey (USA Network, 2011)

This Sunday, November 6th at 9 PM (ET/PT), USA Network premieres the made-for-television adaptation of John Sandford's Certain Prey.

Mark Harmon stars as Minneapolis Deputy Police Chief Lucas Davenport, who doesn't really need his job; he could have retired long ago with the money he made designing computer simulations. But Davenport loves what he does just as much as he loves nice suits, fast cars and women.

When a cop is shot after witnessing the murder of the wife of a local real estate lawyer, Davenport is called to the scene. The cops quickly zero in on the husband as the prime suspect until a team of FBI agents descends on Minneapolis with evidence linking the crime to elusive hit woman Clara Rinker (Tatiana Maslany).

Taking charge of the investigation, Davenport suspects that Clara is not working alone and sets his sights on Carmel Loan (Lola Glaudini), a high-powered attorney with an intense obsession for the real estate lawyer. As Carmel and Clara try to cover up their crimes, the body count grows and Davenport does what he does best — break all of the rules to nab this deadly duo.

Certain Prey, the 10th mystery in this long-running series by Sandford, was originally published in 1999.

New Blade Runner Film Likely to be a Sequel

Blade Runner

Last August we reported that Ridley Scott would be directing a new "Blade Runner" film. Warner Bros. had acquired the rights to do anything but remake the 1982 original, and at the time it was not yet decided whether the new film would be a prequel or a sequel.

Now we're learning — from Ridley Scott himself — that it will likely be a sequel.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the director says, "I think I'm close to finding a writer that might be able to help me deliver; we're quite a long way in, actually."

He also adds that there will be a new cast of characters, so don't expect to see Harrison Ford reprise his role as Rick Deckard.

New Poster for Heist Thriller Now You See Me

Now You See Me (2013)

We're fans of heist thrillers and Now You See Me from Summit Entertainment looks particularly exciting. A new poster — the first, we think, and more concept art than anything else — has just been released for the film (right; click for larger version) even though it doesn't hit theaters until January 2013. The film's tagline: "4 amazing magicians. 3 impossible heists. 1 billion dollars. This is no illusion."

Here's the film's premise: The Four Horsemen, a magic super-group led by the charismatic Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg), perform a pair of high-tech magic shows, first astonishing audiences by robbing a bank on another continent, and then exposing a white-collar criminal and funneling his millions into the audience members’ bank accounts.

FBI Special Agent Dylan (Mark Ruffalo) is determined to make the magicians pay for their crimes — and to stop them before they pull off what promises to be an even more audacious heist. But he’s forced to partner with Alma (Melanie Laurent), an Interpol detective about whom he is instantly suspicious. Out of desperation he turns to Thaddeus (Morgan Freeman), a famed magic debunker, who claims the bank heist was accomplished using disguises and video trickery. One thing Dylan and Alma agree on is that the Horsemen must have an outside point person, and that finding him (or her) is key to ending the magicians’ crime spree. Could it be Thaddeus? Or Alma? Or could it really be … magic?

As pressure mounts and the world awaits the Horsemen’s spectacular final trick, Dylan and Alma race to find an answer. But it soon becomes painfully clear that staying one step ahead of these masters of illusion is beyond the skills of any one man — or woman.

In addition to the actors mentioned above, Now You See Me also stars Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson, and Michael Caine.

New Red Band Trailer for 21 Jump Street

21 Jump Street (2012)

Columbia Pictures has released a new red-band trailer for its theatrical film update of the late 1980s television crime drama 21 Jump Street. We've embedded it below.

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill star as police officers who work undercover as high school students to control youth crime. And while this short synopsis is exactly what the TV series was about, we have to say this trailer looks absolutely nothing like the TV series we remember watching.

21 Jump Street opens in theaters March 16th, 2012.

OMN Welcomes Mystery Author Bobby Cole

Omnimystery News: Authors on Tour

Omnimystery News is pleased to welcome Bobby Cole, whose debut thriller is The Dummy Line (AmazonEncore, October 2011 Trade Paperback and ebook editions).

Today Bobby writes about two sides of a thrilling adventure: the hunter and the hunted. And he's also offering one of our readers a chance to win a copy of his book; see entry details below.

Have you ever been in the later winter woods at night? The dark landscape has a way of soaking up every sound and leaving a hush of total silence. That is until a coyote howls, telling the world he is hunting and found a fresh scent. Even the smooth sound of a barred owl hooting can be unsettling. The woods at night are a totally different place than the woods in the daylight. A seasoned hunter, who knows the ways of the night woods, will pause and listen intently to confirm each sound.

When you’re disoriented the vast woods can seem to go on forever. The huge trees are like giant skeletons and the only witnesses to whatever has occurred or is about to happen.

Running for your life the woods can offer a million places to hide and none of them will offer the comfort of safety. Each muddy foot print leaves a trail and a flashlight as comforting as it can be, is a visual locator beacon for anyone looking for you.

Having hunted and having been around various hunting camps all my life, I was able to pull from my experiences to add authenticity of this story. I know what the woods are like at night, I’ve lived being unnerved by sounds. This is my story. I’ve been preparing to write it all my life and didn’t know it.

Imagine being chased into a vast swamp by a gang of blood crazed rednecks at night. Then imagine having a nine year little girl totally depending on you to take care of her. Add a teenage girl who just witnessed the same rednecks beat her boyfriend senseless and you have the premise for my new suspense thriller, The Dummy Line.

Jake Crosby takes his small daughter on a weekend hunting trip to his remote camp in the vast swamp in rural Alabama. When some deeply disturbed redneck criminals arrive to rob the camp, Jake is forced to kill one in an effort to protect his daughter. With the only exit blocked Jake grabs Katy and they take off deeper into the darkness of the vast swamp, on a collision course with danger.

It’s here, while being chased by revenged crazed rednecks that Jake learns just how dark the woods are, how silent they can be and there is no place to hide. He also learns just how far a man will go to protect what he loves.

Life changing decisions begin happening in rapid fire causing readers to wonder “how would I have handled that situation.” As I wrote the story and heard Jakes voice in my mind I know I did. It’s easy to second guess from the comfort of a reading chair and the situations Jake finds himself in are certainly thought provoking.

The Dummy Line by Bobby Cole

About The Dummy Line:

Avid hunter Jake Crosby is thrilled that his nine-year-old daughter Katy shares his love of the outdoors. His wife, Morgan, on the other hand, does not, which means Jake and Katy enjoy an abundance of hunting, fishing, and camping trips together. So when they head off into the Alabama woods for a spring turkey hunt, Jake expects nothing out of the ordinary. But even his worst nightmares could not prepare him for what befalls them that evening, when a band of drug dealers attempts to break into their remote camp.

Desperate to protect his daughter and himself, Jake makes a gut-wrenching decision. His quick thinking enables him and Katy to escape … but brings the gang of vengeful criminals hot on their trail. Gambling on his knowledge of the land and hunting skills, he leads their bloodthirsty pursuers on a perilous cat-and-mouse game deep within the Noxubee River swamp. Jake knows they all won’t come out alive — but he will do whatever is necessary to make sure Katy does.
