The Town, Adapted from the Novel Prince of Thieves by Chuck Hogan, Opens Friday, September 17th

The Town (2010)

This Friday, September 17th, The Town opens in theaters. Adapted from the Chuck Hogan thriller Prince of Thieves, the film stars Ben Affleck, who also co-wrote the screenplay and directed. (A paperback release of the novel, published last month, was retitled The Town, to tie-in with the film.)

In The Town, Doug MacRay (Affleck) is an unrepentant criminal, the de facto leader of a group of ruthless bank robbers who pride themselves in stealing what they want and getting out clean. With no real attachments, Doug never has to fear losing anyone close to him. But that all changed on the gang's latest job, when they briefly took a hostage. Though they let her go unharmed, she is nervously aware that the robbers know her name ... and where she lives. But she lets her guard down when she meets an unassuming and rather charming man named Doug ... not realizing that he is the same man who only days earlier had terrorized her.

Mr. E. Reviews The Ghost Writer

Mr. E. reviews mystery, suspense, thriller, and crime drama television and film for Omnimystery

Review of The Ghost Writer.

It has long been my opinion that authors (or screenwriters, which in this case are one and the same), who have a political statement to make, are better served by writing a letter to the editor than attempting to wrap a story around their point of view and disguise it as fiction. It rarely succeeds, and most certainly doesn't in the case of The Ghost Writer, which Robert Harris adapted from his own novel The Ghost.
