Please Welcome Suspense Novelist Jody Gehrman

Omnimystery News: Guest Post by Jody Gehrman

We are delighted to welcome back author Jody Gehrman to Omnimystery News today.

Yesterday we had the opportunity talk with Jody about her new novel of suspense Watch Me (St. Martin's Press; January 2018 hardcover, paperback, and ebook formats) and today she returns the favor … sort of! She interviews one of the characters from the book, Sam Grist, a 22-year-old student living in Blackwood, Ohio.

Jody: Do you feel you were fairly portrayed or would you like to set anything straight with your readers?

Sam: Many readers will no doubt write me off as a sociopathic stalker. Ladies and gentlemen of the book-reading jury, answer me this: Was Romeo a stalker? He hung out around Juliet’s balcony, watching her from the shadows. Did that relegate him to the category of literary scum? Not at all. It elevated him to the highest order of romantics. That’s me. I’m passionate. I have single-minded focus when it comes to getting what I want. If that’s a crime, so be it. I’m a criminal for love.

Jody: What do you believe is your strongest trait?

Sam: My commitment to the moment.

Jody: Worse trait?

Sam: My commitment to the moment.

Jody: If you could choose someone in the television or movie industry to play your part if your book was made into a movie, who would that be?

Sam: A young Wes Bentley (circa American Beauty).

Jody: Do you have a love interest in the book?

Sam: Kate Youngblood. She’s my professor, my obsession, my world.

Jody: If you could trade places with one of the other characters in the book, which character would you really not want to be and why?

Sam: Kate goes out with this guy a couple times, Raul. He’s unworthy of her. Things don’t go well for Raul; let’s keep it at that.

Jody: How do you feel about the ending of the book without giving too much away?

Sam: Disaster is its own reward.

Kate Youngblood is disappearing. Muddling through her late 30s as a creative writing professor at Blackwood college, she’s dangerously close to never being noticed again. The follow-up novel to her successful debut tanked. Her husband left her for a woman ten years younger. She’s always been bright, beautiful, independent and a little wild, but now her glow is starting to vanish. She’s heading into an age where her eyes are less blue, her charm worn out, and soon no one will ever truly look at her, want to know her, again.

Except one.

Sam Grist is Kate’s most promising student. An unflinching writer with razor-sharp clarity who gravitates towards dark themes and twisted plots, his raw talent is something Kate wants to nurture into literary success. But he’s not there solely to be the best writer. He’s been watching her. Wanting her. Working his way to her for years.

As Sam slowly makes his way into Kate’s life, they enter a deadly web of dangerous lies and forbidden desire. But how far will his fixation go? And how far will she allow it?
