Please Welcome Novelist Steve P. Vincent

Omnimystery News: Guest Post by Steve P. Vincent
with Steve P. Vincent

We are delighted to welcome novelist Steve P. Vincent to Omnimystery News.

Steve introduces journalist Jack Emery in the political thriller The Foundation (Momentum; September 2014 ebook formats) and in his guest post for us today, he relates a conversation he had with the character. To set the stage, Steve, while he may be fairly tough on Jack, maintains that he's fair and it's all for a greater purpose. Jack, on the other hand, thinks Steve is a jerk, and he has the scars and mental trauma to prove it.

Steve P. Vincent: Hi Jack, nice to speak with you. It's been a while. How's it going?

Jack Emery: You're lucky I'm here at all.

SPV: Now that's a bit ha —

JE: I just read the book.

SPV: Oh. About that …

JE: I can't believe the hell you put me through in 273 pages! I mean, the drafts were bad enough, Steve, but when you team up with a commercial publisher? Brutal.

SPV: Point taken. But the end justifies the means, right?

JE: Would nuking Yankee Stadium be justified to make sure my team wasn't beaten by them? Of course not! Did you really need to make things quite so drastic?

SPV: It is a thriller …

JE: *glare*

SPV: Okay, we started off badly. Tell the readers a bit about yourself.

JE: *Sigh* Fine. I'm a journalist with a habit of getting into messes I should walk away from. I won a Pulitzer a few years back for my coverage of the war in Afghanistan. I like a drink.

SPV: You're also resilient.

JE: Hey, screw you buddy. You're just lucky you don't need to test your immunity to being blown up, tortured, shot at and stalked as often as I do.

SPV: Well, I find hitting Ctrl-A then delete to be a pretty effective tool for dealing with that. It's nice being the lord of your own domain. You should try it.

JE: I write real stories for a living. Not the popcorn fiction you pump out. I try to change the world for the better. You try to blow it up.

SPV: I always fix it in the end. Mostly. Besides, there was a lot that didn't make the final book.

JE: I shudder at the thought.

SPV: Let's take it down a level. We've heard a bit about your career, tell us about your home life.

JE: Complicated. In fact, what you put me through in those twenty-five chapters is nothing compared to my personal life lately. Some of that is in the book though, of course.

SPV: *laughs* I like you Jack. I hope I never have to kill you off to rekindle interest in my series.

JE: Me too, I me — Wait a minute. You said series. You mean there's more?

SPV: Sure! Dude has to eat. The second book is in the works at the moment.

JE: And I'm in it?

SPV: A starring role!

JE: Let me buy you a beer.
