Eileen Brady for her novel Dog Shows Are Murder.
"A delightful and lively mystery that introduces Kate Turner, a veterinarian with heart, humor and a new penchant for solving murders," said mystery author Earlene Fowler, one of the judges for the competition. "A promising first novel that will leave readers begging for more."
Poisoned Pen Press will publish Dog Shows Are Murder in 2014.
There were also three finalists named: Uniformly Dead by Peggy McKeep Barnhill; Murder in the Master by Judy L. Murray; and A Practicum for Murder by Carmen Will.
