Telemystery: Starz to Develop Adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander

Telemystery: Mystery and Suspense on Television

Earlier this year we reported that Diana Gabaldon's Outlander had been optioned for television. Today we're learning (via Deadline) that cable station Starz will develop the project. Ron Moore (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Battlestar Galactica) will write the series adaptation. No target air date was announced.

In 1998, Gabaldon wrote a novella centered on one of the minor characters in the book, Lord John Gray, and later (in 2003) wrote the first of a series of mysteries to feature him.

Diana Gabaldon

This is the first of seven (to date) books in this series of historical romance/adventure novels. It won a RITA Award for Best Romance Novel of 1992.

The year is 1945. Claire Randall is traveling with her husband when she touches a boulder in one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is hurled back in time to a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of our Lord 1743. Catapulted into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life, she soon realizes that an alliance with James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, might be the only way to survive.
