CBS has ordered a pilot for a potential drama (comedy?) series adaptation of the film Beverly Hills Cop. And it gets better: Eddie Murphy, who played titular character Axel Foley in three films, is expected to make an appearance in the pilot … as Axel Foley.
The storyline is expected to center on Foley's son Aaron, who has followed in his father's footsteps as a cop taking down the rich and famous of Beverly Hills, but who longs to establish his own identity separate from that of his father.
Shawn Ryan (The Last Resort, The Shield) will write the pilot screenplay, serve as its showrunner, and co-executive produce with Murphy.
