Peter Lovesey published The Last Detective in 1991, his third series character (after two historical series, one featuring Victorian detective Sergeant Cribbs and the other, Albert Edward, the Prince of Wales). It went on to win the 1992 Anthony Award for Best Novel. Lovesey continues to write mysteries featuring this character, which are published in the US by Soho Press. Last May, Soho reissued the first in this series, the title currently offered here.
