The BBC announced today (via a press release) that it has commissioned five new dramas for BBC One, including one adapted from the classic mystery The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins.
Published in 1868, The Moonstone is regarded by many to be the first detective novel, introducing Sergeant Cuff of Scotland Yard, who is called in to solve the theft of the titular gem — actually a diamond — and in the process uncovers secrets, lies, passion, hypocrisy, and … murder.
The 3-part mini-series is expected to air in December 2012.
